<p>Description of Job Duty:</p> <p>The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Tennessee Tech University invites applications for two full-time, nine-month, tenure-track/tenured faculty positions at all ranks, beginning August 1, 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, developing new courses in their area of expertise, developing an externally funded research program, recruiting and advising graduate and undergraduate students and providing service to the department, college, university, and profession. Participation in the senior design course and some outreach activities are also expected.</p> <p>Tennessee Tech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>Develop an externally funded research program that contributes to one or more of the Strategic Research Areas for the College of Engineering with Mechanical Engineering focus especially Vehicle and Aerospace concentrations. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and labs in support of the Vehicle and Aerospace Concentration Curricula within Mechanical Engineering Department. Direct student research, leading to publications in refereed journals and other peer reviewed media. Advise undergraduate and graduate students. Serve on department, college, and university committees. Participate in professional and public service activities. Applications without all required materials are incomplete and will not be considered.</p> <p>Salary:</p> <p>Commensurate with education and experience. Full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2026.</p> <p>Benefits Information:</p> <p>Benefits include the accumulation of one (1) sick leave day per month and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits. Deferred income and benefits over 12 months.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. The ability to perform the essential functions. The ability to communicate effectively and to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with faculty, students, administrators, staff, and public.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <p>A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Prior teaching and or post-doc experience including graduate student supervision and proposal writing. We are seeking qualified candidates in mechanical engineering, with particular interest in the following areas:</p> <ul> <li>Vehicle Systems with emphasis on areas such as electric vehicles, connected vehicles, intelligence in vehicles including autonomous functions, vehicle communications, vehicle sensors, haptics/human interface, engine/motor/battery/powertrain monitoring, data collection, building data sets appropriate for neural network training, mechatronics applications in vehicle systems. </li><li>Aerospace Engineering, particularly, Intelligent and Autonomous Systems for Aerial and/or Space Vehicles, Flight Dynamics and Control, Electric Propulsion, and AI/ML-driven Design Optimization of Advanced Aerostructures. </li><li>Other cutting-edge research areas supporting the mission of the Mechanical Engineering Department and College of Engineering. </li></ul>
