<p>POSITION TITLE: Community Development Intern</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Community Development Director</p> <p>SUPERVISES: N/A</p> <p>PURPOSE OF POSITION: As the Community Development Intern for the City of Papillion, you will provide support to the Community Development Director with various City Department projects and initiatives that enhance practical understanding in pursuit of an MPA degree.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>Assists with special projects related to Community Development, as directed by the Community Development Director or City Administration.</p> <p>Researches data for City community development activities.</p> <p>Interfaces with various city departments including: Administration, Community Development, Human Resources, Parks and Facilities, Recreation, Planning, Zoning and Code Enforcement, Finance, Police, Communications, Legal, Public Works.</p> <p>Manages updating of City manuals, including Operations, General Orders, and other manuals as needed.</p> <p>Offers insight and experience on when working on projects.</p> <p>Attends various meetings and events with Community Development Director, including but not limited to: city council meetings, chamber of commerce events, economic development meetings, military relations meetings, and other events and meetings as applicable to the internship experience.</p> <p>Physical presence at the assigned job location is an essential function of this role. This position requires onsite attendance during assigned working hours, with remote work arrangements unavailable. Management may consider exceptions under specific circumstances and in accordance with city policies.</p> <p>MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive list of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY:</p> <p>Knowledge of municipal government structure and function as well as knowledge of procedures, standards and current developments in effective city government.</p> <p>Knowledge of and skills in practices of community development.</p> <p>Knowledge of and ability to comprehend and apply city, state and federal laws, policies and regulations that impact city activities and community development services.</p> <p>Ability to analyze data and prepare clear and accurate presentations, reports, and informational materials.</p> <p>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with city officials, fellow employees, members of the public, and patrons.</p> <p>Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English.</p> <p>Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.</p> <p>Ability to fulfill and adhere to a commitment to public service and municipal government.</p> <p>Ability to maintain regular and dependable attendance on the job, including attendance and job performance for possibly prolonged periods of time when called out on short notice due to weather conditions, emergencies and similar situations of public necessity.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:</p> <p>Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire.</p> <p>Enrollment with an accredited college or university pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in community and regional planning, political science, public or business administration, negotiation and conflict resolution, finance, or other fields related to community development.</p> <p>Must be bondable.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <p>Work is generally performed indoors in an office setting, or at various other indoor locations, and requires routine bending, lifting and carrying equipment, office supplies, books, files and other materials. The incumbent is required to frequently sit for extended periods of time, talk, hear and must have the ability to transport themselves to and from various locations throughout the city and surrounding communities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various other pieces of equipment.</p> <p>While performing the duties, the incumbent is required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. Work hours may occasionally be required in times of darkness. Vision abilities required for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is usually moderate but may be intense depending upon scheduled activity.</p> <p>Work requires extensive interaction with the general public and may be stressful when interacting with citizens and/or meeting deadlines.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:</p> <p>Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire.</p> <p>Enrollment with an accredited college or university pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in community and regional planning, political science, public or business administration, negotiation and conflict resolution, finance, or other fields related to community development.</p> <p>Must be bondable.</p>
