<p>The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is seeking a full-time Clinical/Technical Specialist.</p> <p>This position provides a specialized level of technical service relative to the processing of instruments for the Main OR and UIHC clinics. This includes responsibility for staff education, equipment maintenance, and supplies. The supervisor collaborates with clinical and non-clinical staff in order to insure safe and effective patient care as it relates to sterile processing. This position provides staff monitoring, guidance, coaching, and counseling to assure the best in patient outcomes are achieved.</p> <p>University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa's only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31, 2024.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities</p> <p>A. Provide Specialty Clinical/Technical Service</p> <ul> <li>Provide specialized level of clinical/technical expertise in the reprocessing of instruments - including cleaning, inspecting, disinfecting, and sterilizing. </li><li>Identify training gaps and proactively assess educational needs. </li><li>Maintain and update equipment and supplies used in instrument reprocessing. </li><li>Performs all duties performed by the Central Service technicians as needed. </li></ul> <p>B. Provide Education</p> <ul> <li>Provide health education and feedback to individual staff members relative to department operations. </li><li>Monitor the effectiveness of training methods to a variety of audiences such as technicians, clinicians, and administrators. </li></ul> <p>C. Collaborate/Communicate with Health Care Team</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with others on the health care team related to clinical/technical specification to assure a common goal of safe and effective delivery of care. </li><li>Communication to a variety of audiences through data. </li></ul> <p>D. Compliance with Internal Policies and External Regulations for Safe and Effective Care Delivery and Health Profession Education</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge and compliance to regulations and standards such as OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOT, AAMI, AORN, etc. </li><li>Knowledge and compliance to accreditation agencies such as The Joint Commission. </li><li>Identify and communicate variances and create action plans to address them. </li><li>Assists to ensure staff are compliant with policies, procedures, and regulations. </li></ul> <p>E. Human Resources Management</p> <ul> <li>Supervises technical activities of technician staff in UIHC Central Sterilizing Services. </li><li>Participates in the hiring of staff and students, including candidate evaluation, interviewing, and onboarding. </li><li>Assign work and monitor workflow to promote depth of competency and prevention of repetitive injury. </li><li>Guide, coach and develop staff through performance management (evaluative feedback counseling) to assure outcomes are achieved. </li><li>Supports management during HR procedures and communicate any issues to HR and CSS leadership. </li></ul> <p>Education Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, nursing, or related field: or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Central Sterilizing. </li></ul> <p>Experience Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must possess and maintain certification through a nationally recognized central sterilizing service training program such as HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution). </li><li>Proficient in computer software applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel </li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills. </li><li>A minimum of 2 years related experience working in a medical field that includes a sterile processing component. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Familiarity with UIHC supervisory functions such as ELMS and performance reviews. </li><li>Experience managing in a union environment. </li></ul> <p>In order to be considered for an interview, applicants must upload the following documents and mark them as a "Relevant File" to the submission:</p> <ul> <li>Resume </li><li>Cover Letter </li></ul> <p>Job openings are posted for a minimum of 7 calendar days and may be removed from posting and filled any time after the original posting period has ended.</p> <p>Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any conviction history and will be subject to a criminal background check and credential/education verification.
