<p>Position Summary</p> <p>This position serves as shift commander and is responsible for the supervision of Police Officers and all law enforcement activities that occur during their shift and during times when they are the Staff Duty Officer. The Police Sergeant conducts evaluations and implements disciplinary actions of verbal, written reprimands and recommends suspension or termination of employees for cause. This position arranges schedules, coordinates field operations, maintains liaison with local law enforcement agencies, courts, etc., and coordinates criminal investigations. This position is responsible to ensure compliance with statutes, adopted department rules, policies, and the attainment of department objectives by subordinate law enforcement officers.</p> <p>For more information, please view the complete position description.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>Starting hourly rate for the Police Sergeant position (schedule/range 81-03) will be $45.00 per hour - $49.76 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan. The selected candidate must successfully pass a drug screening, psychological evaluation, medical examination, vision screening, and fitness exam.</p> <p>Due to the nature of the position, DOA/DCP will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.</p> <p>This position primarily works Monday through Friday with weekends and holidays off. The sergeant is expected to set their schedule to meet the operational needs of the PM Shift (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM). This position participates in an on-call supervisory rotation, serving as the on-call supervisor approximately once every seven weeks.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Minimally qualified applicants will currently be certified as a law enforcement officer by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) OR be eligible for LESB certification at the time of application.</p> <p>Certification as a jail or correctional officer by the Law Enforcement Standards Board does NOT qualify.</p> <p>In addition, qualified applicants will have experience with each of the following:</p> <ul> <li>Patrol operations (e.g., responding to calls for service, documenting incidents, enforcing laws and ordinances, etc.). </li><li>Serving in a supervisory or leadership role in a law enforcement setting (e.g., providing guidance and direction, team motivation, training, coaching, acting as lead officer, etc.). </li></ul> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>Apply online!
