<p>Job Title: Civil EngineerJob Description</p> <p>The role involves supporting the Water Resources division by reviewing and issuing civil drawings for proposed land disturbing activities in both residential and commercial developments within the city.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Review new and redevelopment projects for compliance with civil, environmental, and erosion & sediment control plans and documents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. </li><li>Attend meetings with engineers, citizens, and developers to discuss proposed development projects. </li><li>Stay educated on the latest stormwater and environmental changes to local and state regulations. </li><li>Collaborate with other staff to approve permits and land use projects promptly to meet departmental metrics. </li><li>Learn and understand all utilities within the city, the scope of services offered to citizens, and the key staff responsible for implementing those services. </li><li>Attend occasional on-site meetings to discuss civil and environmental issues with developers and landowners. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (civil discipline preferred). </li><li>1 year of professional engineering experience. </li><li>Strong knowledge or experience in Erosion & Sediment Control and Stormwater principles, land development, site development, and permitting. </li><li>Proficiency in civil engineering and AutoCAD. </li><li>Knowledge of stormwater, erosion control, and sediment control. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of surveying principles, hydraulic modeling, and AWWA Water/Sewer Construction practices. </li><li>VADEQ E & S plan reviewer certification and VA DEQ Stormwater Plan Reviewer Certification. </li><li>Understanding of VPDES permitting and Chesapeake Bay Protection Area Program. </li><li>Skills in erosion & sediment control, stormwater design & construction, and wetland permitting. </li><li>Familiarity with site, roadway, and utility design standards. </li><li>Basic knowledge of mechanical, reliability, maintenance, or civil engineering. </li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret GIS maps and AutoCAD plans. </li><li>Strong technical writing and oral and written communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This position requires working 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, in an office setting.
