We welcome and respect all employees as they are. Come join our team-you belong here!</p> <p>Our Community Development Department is searching for a Plumbing Inspector to join the team. This position is responsible for performing inspection of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings for compliance with City and State codes. Work involves routine field inspection, investigation of complaints, issuing permits, reviewing proposals and plans, and dealing with the public. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Inspections Supervisor.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Reviews plans for building and plumbing installations for compliance of codes prior to issuance of permits. </li><li>Reviews and writes permits. </li><li>Performs on-site inspections of various phases of construction to ensure compliance as required by Wisconsin Administrative & Building codes and City ordinances and policies. </li><li>Investigates complaints, with follow-up if necessary. </li><li>Consults with property owners, builders, architects, and engineers to resolve problems and complaints regarding code application and interpretation. </li><li>Completes daily inspection reports. </li><li>Partakes in the activities of various inspection department boards, committees, or review teams. Confers with other City department personnel on areas of code or policy overlap. </li><li>Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required. </li></ul> <p>OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Assists with storm damage assessment when needed. </li><li>Acts as a witness in court actions for compliance of orders issued for various violations. </li><li>Initiates noncompliance orders, citations, and other enforcement actions when necessary. </li><li>Oversees record maintenance, report preparation and permit/report data entry into computer files. </li></ul> <p>Considerable experience in the plumbing trade, a Journeyman Plumbing License or Master Plumber License and the ability to obtain Commercial Plumbing Inspector credential by the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) and in accordance with DSPS 305.625.</p> <p>The following knowledge, abilities and skills are also required:</p> <ul> <li>Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of building and plumbing code. </li><li>Thorough knowledge of State and City plumbing and UDC building codes. </li><li>Knowledge of computer applications. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public, and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. </li><li>Ability to interpret quality of building materials and their application. </li><li>Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records. </li><li>Ability to investigate complaints and resolve them and or, if necessary, initiate appropriate compliance action. </li><li>Valid driver's license. </li><li>Ability to obtain UDC building inspection certification. </li></ul> <p>COMPETENCIES</p> <p>Communication</p> <p>Customer Focus</p> <p>Handling Difficult People</p> <p>Problem Solving</p> <p>Adaptability/Flexibility</p> <p>To learn more about these competencies click here</p>
