<p>Job Title: Senior Electromechanical Systems Engineer - Robotics R&D</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>This role focuses on maintaining, upgrading, and supporting a fleet of complex robotic systems in a research and development environment. The engineer leads hands-on system integration, troubleshooting, and configuration management activities while working within formal design control processes typical of highly regulated industries. The position plays a key role in developing and executing test methods, supporting new product introduction, and improving the reliability and manufacturability of advanced electromechanical systems.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Maintain and upgrade a fleet of robotic systems used for research, development, and clinical activities under established design control processes. </li><li>Perform system configuration management to ensure full traceability of hardware, software, and documentation across R&D and clinical use. </li><li>Lead hands-on, disciplined troubleshooting of complex electromechanical systems, collaborating closely with electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams. </li><li>Develop and refine test methods and protocols, execute tests on robotic and electromechanical subsystems, analyze results, and prepare formal test reports. </li><li>Release test reports, design changes, and process improvements through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools. </li><li>Author technical documents, procedures, and work instructions related to process improvements, system builds, and ongoing support activities. </li><li>Support system builds from prototype through production, including planning, assembly oversight, and integration of complex electromechanical components. </li><li>Manage inventory and support procurement activities, including bill of materials (BOM) creation, updates, and coordination with supply chain. </li><li>Propose and implement improvements to system reliability, performance, and serviceability based on test data and field feedback. </li><li>Lead and support detailed build planning, including BOM definition, procurement planning, and scheduling for future system builds. </li><li>Apply industry best practices for the development and verification of complex electromechanical systems in a heavily regulated environment. </li><li>Develop and maintain production-level documentation, including BOMs, assembly drawings, maintenance instructions, and support documentation. </li><li>Provide cross-functional technical leadership, coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations to meet project goals. </li><li>Contribute to project management activities such as estimating task timelines, creating work breakdown structures, and providing status updates on progress and downtime. </li><li>Participate in design transfer and new product introduction activities to ensure smooth transition from R&D to production. </li><li>Support fixture and process validation activities to confirm that manufacturing and test processes meet defined requirements. </li><li>Communicate clearly and regularly with stakeholders, providing concise technical updates and documentation throughout the product lifecycle. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>7-10+ years of experience working with complex electromechanical systems in a research and development environment. </li><li>Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field; an Associate's degree with exceptional experience is acceptable. </li><li>Experience in heavily regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, defense, automotive, or life sciences. </li><li>Proven, hands-on experience in assembly, integration, and testing of electro-mechanical systems, ideally including robotic systems. </li><li>Ability to deconstruct complex technical problems into manageable components and derive effective, practical solutions. </li><li>Demonstrated experience in cross-functional collaboration and technical leadership within multidisciplinary engineering teams. </li><li>Experience in project management, including task timeline estimation, work breakdown structure creation, and providing schedule and downtime updates. </li><li>Knowledge of industry best practices for the development and verification of complex electromechanical systems. </li><li>Experience developing production-level documentation such as bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and maintenance instructions. </li><li>Proficiency in developing test methods and protocols, performing tests, analyzing results, and releasing associated documentation. </li><li>Strong documentation and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, complete, and compliant technical records. </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools for documentation, analysis, and communication. </li><li>Experience with complex electromechanical assemblies or subsystems, ideally in robotics. </li><li>Some level of electrical and/or software experience in addition to mechanical knowledge. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience using, modifying, or programming in MATLAB, Simulink, or LabVIEW. </li><li>Experience with new product introduction (NPI) and design transfer from R&D to manufacturing. </li><li>Experience in fixture and process validation activities. </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) tools; SolidWorks experience is preferred. </li><li>Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/A), Six Sigma methodologies, and statistical tolerance analysis. </li><li>Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and management of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). </li><li>Familiarity with regulatory expectations and standards relevant to controlled industries such as medical devices, aerospace, defense, automotive, and life sciences. </li><li>Experience in environments governed by standards such as FDA and ISO is beneficial. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The role is based in a controlled, regulated engineering and laboratory environment focused on advanced robotic and electromechanical systems. Work typically takes place on site five days per week to support hands-on system builds, integration, and troubleshooting. The engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, quality, and operations. Daily work involves using test equipment, CAD and PLM tools, Microsoft Office, and engineering software such as MATLAB, Simulink, or LabVIEW. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to formal design control and documentation processes, and clear communication. Attire is generally appropriate for a technical lab and light manufacturing setting, balancing professional appearance with practicality for hands-on assembly and testing work.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Contract position based out of Newton, MA.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
