Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security.</p> <p>About Department 468 - Planning Yard Fleet Support and Systems Engineering</p> <p>Department 468 Fleet Support and Systems Engineering provides systems engineering support for in-service VIRGINIA, OHIO, and SEAWOLF Class submarines under the Planning Yard OMNIBUS contract. The mission of the Department is to drive innovation, deliver high-quality technical solutions, and support the organizations strategic goals through engineering excellence. We accomplish this by managing engineering changes and documentation updates including SHIPALTs, TEMPALTs, VIRs, LARs, RLARs, and MCRs, while ensuring ship configuration records remain accurate. We coordinate and issue responses across disciplines for Liaison Action Requests (LARs) and Departure for Specifications (DFSs), support NAVSEA-directed tasking and provide engineering expertise for specialized systems such as Deep Submergence Systems (DSS), Escape and Rescue Systems, Dry Deck Shelters (DDS), and Advanced Seal Delivery Systems (ASDS). We provide on-site support and work directly alongside the Navy shipyards and bases at Norfolk, Portsmouth, Pearl Harbor, and Guam in order to keep our submarines safe, modernized and fully mission-ready through first time quality driven from efficiency and innovation.</p> <p>Role Overview</p> <p>Within this group, the Availability Support Group (ASG) fulfills a key role in providing this support to multiple US Navy stakeholders during submarine maintenance periods at Naval Shipyards (NSYs) and maintenance facilities. As an Engineer in the Availability Support Group, you will routinely interact with the NSYs, NAVSEA PMS392 and PMS450, the submarine maintenance community, and EB engineering and design personnel to help champion effective configuration management and quality assurance of drawings and technical variance documentation (TVD) applicable to commissioned submarines. This position may require occasional travel to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (ME), Norfolk Naval Shipyard (VA), Washington Engineering Office (DC) and other customer locations.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Become closely involved in ongoing drawing issues using your own initiative and management skills. </li><li>Develop agendas, lead internal and external meetings </li><li>Develop meeting minutes </li><li>Execute action plans utilizing teams of engineers, designers, and technical support personnel. </li><li>Assist in the resolution of ongoing/emergent issues using independent judgement and vision for new processes and products. </li></ul> <p>A solid understanding of drawing, Engineering Report, and Auto-Revision processes, TVD documentation, and Engineering Configuration Management requirements is necessary to be successful in this role.
