<p>The Autotransfusion Tech I is a technologist performing intra-operative and post-operative autologous blood salvaging and/or Platelet Gel and/or Bone Marrow Aspirate for the scheduled and emergent inpatient and outpatient population upon the order of an attending physician. Autotransfusion is referring to the process of collection, separation of blood components, packing, washing and then reinfusion of the patients own blood lost during surgery and after surgery. This is carried out by the proper selection and use of a blood processing machine specifically designed for this purpose. Autotransfusion Services are provided and utilized at Baptist Hospital and Gulf Breeze Hospital. The Autotransfusion Technician I in this position works under general supervision of the Attending Physician and Chief of Perfusion and Autotransfusion Services.</p> <ul> <li>Performs, assesses, and manages Autotransfusion procedures. </li><li>Proper device selection, appropriate patient specific equipment selection, set up, and operation of Autotransfusion machines as required by procedures. Operates blood recovery equipment in the peri-operative environment. </li><li>Maintains, monitors, and ensures aseptic techniques as related Autotransfusion Services throughout procedures, and, in addition, to aseptic technique utilization throughout the institution where appropriate. </li><li>Initiates, generates, maintains accurate, complete and legible records and processes all pertinent documentation specific to autotransfusion procedures. </li><li>Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures when necessary. </li><li>Maintains equipment, troubleshoots procedural and technical problems. </li><li>Quality assurance, control, and improvement, plans as related to autotransfusion services. </li><li>Orders, stocks, checks expiration dates, and inventories disposables, medications, and other essentials needed to efficiently run the department. </li><li>Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development. </li><li>Is knowledgeable in the proper utilization of financial resources for the betterment of the department, which then fulfills the fiscal goals of the organization. </li><li>Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. </li><li>May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or Equivalent Required </li></ul> <p>Minimum Work Experience</p> <ul> <li>Previous healthcare, hospital and/or Operating room experience Required </li></ul> <p>Licenses and Certifications</p> <ul> <li>Perioperative Blood Management Technologist (PBMT) Preferred </li></ul> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Excellent communication skills. </li><li>Demonstrates good judgment and understanding when dealing with all people. </li><li>Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation and choose appropriate alternative. </li><li>Must have appropriate and reliable transportation in order to drive with valid driver's license between company facilities. </li><li>Must be able to return to the hospital/facility within 30 minutes of a Callback. </li></ul>
