Applicants from traditionally underrepresented populations including women, racial and ethnic minorities, and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.</p> <p>DEFINITION</p> <p>The Community Justice Council (CJC) Research Assistant works under the general supervision of the Director of the Office of Justice Reform , who serves as the coordinator for the Community Justice Council. The position performs the following essential duties under the framework of the Community Justice Council: data analysis and research assistance, content education development, program and policy research, and general support of the CJC and its subcommittees.</p> <p>The Research Assistant may work in one or more of the following areas:</p> <p>Community education and communication efforts:</p> <p>Maintain the CJC website and act as a liaison for community and the CJC coordinator. Assist in the content and organizational development for an educational series featuring CJC members and community leaders.</p> <p>General support of the CJC Coordinator for CJC and CJC subcommittee research and meetings:</p> <p>Develop and distribute materials, conduct and summarize research on special topics, and provide needed support at formal and informal meeting.</p> <p>Support for the Community Court of Dane County:</p> <p>Assist the Director in administrative requirements for the Dane County Community Court, including but not limited to: updating website materials, collection and distribution of community court information packets, and general Community Court support.</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES</p> <p>Research and report on national best practices, national research evaluations and complete research on innovative data strategies. Maintain the Dane County CJC website. Assist with primary and secondary research regarding criminal justice systems. Data analysis and/or validation. Provide general support to the CJC Coordinator. Respond to priorities set forth by the Director of the Office of Justice Reform (CJC Coordinator). Work will change as the initiatives and projects evolve.</p> <p>Education, Training and Experience:</p> <p>Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Data systems or Public Administration. </p> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <p>Must have a valid driver's license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Also refer to the "Physical and Environmental Work Requirements" section below.</p> <p>Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 - 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.) Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.</p> <p>For Bilingual Positions:</p> <p>Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Hmong, etc.). </p> <ul> <li>Applicants being considered for bilingual positions will be tested during the recruitment process prior to employment. This will primarily consist of passing an oral language proficiency assessment from English to foreign language and foreign language to English, but may require additional language testing, such as written translation, if it is an essential function of the job. </li><li>If applicable, individuals may confirm with the Employee Relations Division whether results of bilingual language certifications/ examinations they currently hold qualify them for the position's bilingual designation. </li></ul> <p>Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:</p> <p>Professional office work environment. Work involves walking, sitting, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, and reaching within normal ranges. Ability to lift and move a variety of work-related materials weighing up to 25 pounds (with/without assistance). Prolonged computer and phone use. Manual dexterity using fine and gross motor skills. Ability to speak and be heard by others. Ability to see and hear within normal ranges with or without corrective devices. </p> <p>Knowledge of the core functions of the criminal justice system, both locally and nationally. Project management best practices and research and evaluation standards. Effective interpersonal skills. Effective time management skills. Data management skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Effective written communications to a broad amount of information to a wide variety of audiences. Demonstrated ability to assist in group presentations, including presentation materials.</p>
