This position serves as a resource to the school(s) to effectively communicate to parents/community members the instructional goals of the school, assist with the assessment of the school's parental involvement efforts, create an inviting environment, and establish opportunities for parents to be collaborative partners in their student's education. Will assist with translation and/or communication using second language skills when possible.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with parents to help ensure instructional goals for the school/district are communicated and monitor student performance and attendance including making and facilitating home visits as appropriate. </li><li>Provide information on programs, services or resources per the social needs of the community. Partner with community organizations to increase resource base. This includes keeping the SOAR Academy website up to date. </li><li>Evaluate and create an inviting school environment for all parents and community members. </li><li>Coordinate parent training, meetings and volunteer efforts. </li><li>Work with leadership and parents to conduct annual needs assessments, plan activities and evaluate current strategies for increasing family and community involvement. </li><li>Attend district training and meetings as required. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY DUTIES:</p> <p>None</p> <p>POSITION REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or G.E.D. </li><li>Bilingual Spanish/English (oral and written communication skills) </li><li>Operating knowledge of and experience with computers, word processing, spreadsheets, internet applications and general office equipment </li><li>Excellent organizational, presentation, time management, facilitation, mediation, and decision making skills. </li><li>Ability to work with students and families with diverse backgrounds and abilities. </li><li>Ability to diffuse volatile situations </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor Degree highly desired OR 2-year degree in Education, Social Work or equivalent relevant experience </li></ul> <p>GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Is flexible and adaptable to change </li><li>Has the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and co-workers </li><li>Maintains a positive attitude </li><li>Adheres to high standards of confidentiality </li><li>Must be highly organized and efficient </li><li>Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills </li><li>Demonstrated understanding and empathy necessary for working with students </li><li>Observes all district policies and procedures </li><li>Supports the Sheridan School District Strategic Plan </li></ul> <p>CERTIFICATION OR LICENSE:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Colorado Driver's License </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions required the following physical demands: some lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment.</p> <p>CLEARANCE:</p> <p>Must clear online background check and FBI Fingerprint check through Colorado Bureau of Investigation.</p> <p>SALARY:</p> <p>Salary placement is on Class 3 of the Specialist salary schedule and is $17.80-$19.78/hour, based upon previous related experience. Highest initial step placement is step 5. Current Board approved Specialist salary schedule is available for review on our district website at http://www.ssd2.org/SalarySchedules.aspx.</p> <p>Please note: This is an at-will position with the Sheridan School District. The annual salary for this position will be determined by number of hours scheduled to work each day and number of days scheduled to work each year. The computed annual salary will be spread out in equal payments over 12 months. Sheridan School District employees are paid once a month on the 1st working day of the month that is not a weekend day or holiday.</p> <p>BENEFITS:</p> <p>Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits. Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned.
