By joining our team, you will be given opportunities to grow as an individual and contribute to the significant impact that we make within the University of Nebraska community and Nebraska's economy each year.</p> <p>As a Utility Locator, you will:</p> <ul> <li>Locate, identify, validate, and mark underground utilities using specialized equipment. </li><li>Collect, archive, and update utility location data in GIS databases to support accurate utility mapping and infrastructure planning. </li><li>Provide technical assistance to campus stakeholders regarding utility locations and potential site-specific risk factors. </li><li>Assess potential liabilities for utility regulations to ensure compliance and enforce policies related to the protection of buried utilities and environmental hazard mitigation. </li><li>Serve as the university's liaison to local, state, federal utility entities, and other utility locating services. </li><li>Paint, inspect, and maintain utility access points such as manholes, vaults, lids, and covers. </li><li>Assist in developing contingency plans and response protocols for mechanical utility failures, service disruptions, and emergency situations. </li><li>Ensure compliance with procedures, safety standards, and project specifications for excavation and utility work. </li><li>Coordinate utility locating efforts with internal and external stakeholders. </li><li>Recommend corrective actions or the deployment of additional personnel to resolve deficiencies and support project completion timelines. </li><li>Operate university vehicles and maintain assigned tools and equipment in good working order. </li><li>Create, manage, and complete work orders using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). </li><li>Conduct monthly inspections of utility tunnels, checking steam and condensate lines, steam traps, and related systems. </li><li>Record steam trap data at least twice annually. </li><li>Perform annual valve turns and maintain logs to document the lifespan and integrity of valves and components. </li><li>Conduct monthly spill inspections, complete required documentation, and manage inventory of spill response supplies, including ordering and reporting. </li><li>Perform tube punching tasks to support the campus chilled water system. </li><li>Flush fire hydrants, clean and flush floor drains and pits in plant facilities, and clean and paint utility lines and other infrastructure within the plant. </li></ul> <p>This position is required to be available on a 24/7 on-call basis to respond to urgent situations that may require immediate attention or after-hours work.</p> <p>The University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks to attract and retain a high performing and collaborative workforce.
