<p>Groundskeeper</p> <p>Part-time position - Posted 4/16/25</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Responsible for maintenance and care of all grounds areas including athletic fields and greenhouse. Provides some equipment maintenance; is a team player. This is a part-time position.</p> <p>This is a safety Sensitive Position as defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). This means that the employee's inability or impaired ability to perform job-related tasks could result in a direct threat to their safety and/or the safety of others.</p> <p>Role Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Strong ability to create good will with staff, faculty, and students; servant attitude. </li><li>Must partner with the Grounds Manager to keep grounds and equipment in excellent condition. </li><li>Commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desires to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities. </li></ul> <p>Position Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Meets daily with Grounds Manager to set priorities. </li><li>Cares for all grounds areas including tree planting and pruning, care of plant beds and shrubs, care of lawns, weeding, cleaning trash from assigned areas including parking lots. </li><li>Mows, trims, edges, waters, fertilizes, aerates, dethatches, resods, and grades all grounds and athletic fields. Applies herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides as needed. </li><li>Paints, maintains, and repairs grounds and athletic field equipment, including all small powered grounds equipment, tractors, riding mowers, bucket loader, reel mowers, and irrigation equipment. </li><li>Directs and trains student workers. </li><li>Follows a written work schedule and is flexible to hours or days that may vary for summer schedules, breaks in academic schedule, and holidays. Special events may also require alternate work schedules and some overtime will be required. </li><li>Will be on call and expected to come in on snow days to clear sidewalks, parking lots, etc. for University. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Possesses a thorough knowledge of general gardening and grounds maintenance methods. </li><li>Possesses a general knowledge of proper methods in planting, cultivating and caring for hedges, ornamental trees, lawns and flowers as well as the use and care of gardening materials, tools and equipment. </li><li>One or more years experience in care and maintenance of landscaped areas or in general grounds maintenance. </li><li>Possesses mechanical aptitude. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Skills and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Courses in grounds care </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>High school graduate </li></ul> <p>Reporting to this position</p> <ul> <li>Work-study (student) staff </li></ul> <p>Physical demands and work environment:</p> <p>Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; kneel; bend; talk and hear. The employee must also be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds for short distances; work on ladders and stairs; use power tools; work with chemicals; work on feet for up to 8 hours; work long periods of time kneeling, bending and stooping; understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
