<p>Job Description</p> <p>Join Our Team as a Wastewater Maintenance Worker!</p> <p>Do you take pride in hands-on work that keeps your community running smoothly? As a Wastewater Maintenance Worker, you'll perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain and repair public works assets including sewer main lines and lower laterals, contributing directly to the safety and functionality of essential infrastructure in the Wastewater Division.</p> <p>This journey-level role offers the opportunity to work independently across a range of assignments, applying your experience and problem-solving skills to get the job done right. If you thrive in a dynamic environment, we'd love to have you on our team!</p> <p>Duties/Responsibilities</p> <p>Examples of Typical Job Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Operate and maintain a wide range of vehicles and equipment, such as dump trucks, backhoes, vacuum trucks, and sewer inspection tools </li><li>Assist in cleaning and maintaining sewer mains, storm drains, and lift stations using specialized equipment </li><li>Safely work in confined spaces following Cal-OSHA and City safety standards </li><li>Use video inspection equipment to assess sewer lines and respond to sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) </li><li>Locate and mark underground wastewater utilities </li><li>Perform unskilled to skilled manual labor in maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks, sewer systems, traffic signs, parks, and more </li><li>Respond to emergency calls, including placing barricades, debris removal, street sign replacement, and urgent repairs </li><li>Work collaboratively with team members and provide excellent customer service to the public </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or G.E.D. (required). </li></ul> <p>Licenses/Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>Possess and maintain a valid Class A California Driver's License with appropriate endorsements and a satisfactory driving record OR must have ability to obtain within one year from date of appointment (required for full-time appointments). </li><li>California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Collection Systems Operator Certification Grade I or 2 (highly desirable). </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Two years of relevant maintenance experience. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Tools and equipment commonly used in construction and maintenance work </li><li>Maintenance methods, techniques, and practices </li><li>Operation and upkeep of equipment used in grounds and sewer system maintenance </li><li>Standard safety procedures and precautions </li><li>Traffic laws and regulations pertaining to trucks and heavy equipment </li><li>Procedures and equipment for sewer system maintenance and repair </li><li>Relevant laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, and policies </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Operate a wide range of vehicles and heavy equipment </li><li>Safely use hand and power tools in maintenance and construction tasks </li><li>Maintain accurate records of work completed and materials used </li><li>Perform physically demanding labor and heavy manual tasks regularly </li><li>Safely operate machinery and make repairs and adjustments as needed </li><li>Learn, apply, and follow policies, procedures, and regulations </li><li>Pour and mix concrete for various projects </li><li>Repair and maintain irrigation and sprinkler systems </li><li>Read gauges and testing equipment to ensure proper operation </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements</p> <p>This position is subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).</p> <p>Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to consistently and frequently operate tools and equipment; lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; handle regular fieldwork </li><li>Outdoor work with exposure to loud noise, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous substances </li><li>Monday to Sunday availability, with hours and days adjusted as needed </li></ul> <p>IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The City of Chino is committed to offering reasonable accommodations to job applicants with disabilities.
