CIPM fosters the development and implementation of pest management programs. Eligibility and Employer Sponsored Plans can be found within each of the links offered.</p> <p>Essential Job Duties</p> <p>The Technical Editor provides advanced, independent editorial and technical expertise in support of a cooperative agreement between CIPM and USDA-APHIS PPQ Science & Technology (Plant Pest Risk Analysis unit). The position supports the development of high-impact scientific and regulatory reports that inform national plant pest risk analysis and protect U.S. agriculture. The incumbent will work under a project lead serving as a Technical Editor supporting the cooperative activities between PPRA and CIPM.</p> <p>Major Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <p>Scientific & Technical Editing (45%)</p> <ul> <li>Independently edit complex scientific and regulatory reports for clarity, accuracy, consistency, and scientific integrity. </li><li>Ensure information is presented in a clear, concise, and technically sound manner for federal and scientific audiences. </li></ul> <p>Regulatory Compliance & Document Standards (20%)</p> <ul> <li>Ensure all documents comply with federal, agency, and project-specific standards, including Section 508 accessibility requirements. </li><li>Apply and enforce consistent formatting, style, citations, tables, and figures across multi-author documents. </li></ul> <p>Writing & Content Development Support (15%)</p> <ul> <li>Provide editorial and writing support to federal staff and cooperators, including drafting and revising scientific text as needed. </li><li>Strengthen document structure, logical flow, and readability while preserving author intent. </li></ul> <p>Project Coordination & Collaboration (10%)</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support editorial workflows and meet project deadlines. </li><li>Communicate editorial guidance clearly and professionally to internal and external stakeholders. </li></ul> <p>Quality Control & Process Improvement (10%)</p> <ul> <li>Conduct final quality assurance reviews prior to submission. </li><li>Contribute to continuous improvement of editorial processes and documentation practices. </li></ul> <p>Other Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree required in one or more of the following fields: Technical Writing. Familiarity with agricultural-related biological fields such as Plant Pathology, Entomology, Ecology, Botany, Weed Science, Crop Science, etc. a plus. For candidates with a comparable combination of education and experience, a relevant undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience will be considered. </li></ul> <p>Other Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Position requires excellent written and oral communication skills in English and a high level of scientific literacy. </li><li>Must be familiar with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EndNote, etc. </li><li>Requires professional judgment, autonomy, and specialized knowledge of scientific communication and federal documentation standards. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Post-Baccalaureate degree in technical or scientific communication or comparable combination of education and experience. </li><li>Experience editing scientific/technical communication in English. </li><li>Has scientific literacy in agricultural-based sciences (i.e., Plant Pathology, Entomology, Botany, etc.). </li></ul> <p>Required License(s) or Certification(s)</p> <ul> <li>N/A </li></ul> <p>Valid NC Driver's License required No Commercial Driver's License required No</p>
