<p>Special Education Aide/Life Skills</p> <p>JOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 12/10/2025 CLOSING DATE: 12/16/2025 04:00 PM POSTING NUMBER: 051663 LOCATION: Knox Junior High - 046 POSITION TITLE: Special Education Aide/Life Skills</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>Help meet physical and instructional needs of individual students with disabilities inside and outside classroom. Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher. Primary responsibility would be to assist in the Life Skills classroom.</p> <p>DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Help meet the individual needs of students, including transferring them to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning them, and signing or interpreting instructions for them, if needed. </li><li>Help students take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene. </li><li>Help manage the behavior of assigned students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or student behavior as needed. </li><li>Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. </li><li>Work with assigned students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher. </li><li>Assist assigned students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. </li><li>Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of assigned students. </li><li>Collect necessary paperwork/data per teacher direction. </li><li>Participate in professional development programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality. </li><li>Maintain regular attendance. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Experience working with children </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education/Certification:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED </li><li>Valid Texas educational aide certificate (must obtain within 30 days of employment) </li><li>Current certification in de-escalation and restraint techniques or completion of certification within 45 school days of employment </li></ul> <p>Special Knowledge/Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work with children with disabilities </li><li>Ability to follow verbal and written instructions </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively </li></ul> <p>CONTACT INFORMATION:</p> <p>EQUIPMENT USED: Wheelchair lift, ramps, personal computer, copier, typewriter, and audiovisual equipment.</p> <p>Mental Demands/ Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; maintain emotional control under stress.
