These efforts are monitored and assessed regularly to ensure accountability to all stakeholders.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic Special Education Teacher to join our early childhood team. This position supports young learners with developmental delays, learning disabilities, and other special needs by providing individualized instruction in a nurturing, structured, and play-based environment.</p> <p>Essential Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement age-appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students. </li><li>Use hands-on, sensory, and play-based approaches to deliver instruction. </li><li>Create a safe, structured, and welcoming classroom that promotes independence and social-emotional growth. </li><li>Support students in building foundational skills such as early literacy, numeracy, communication, and self-help. </li><li>Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other support staff </li><li>Maintain open and consistent communication with families to support student learning and development. </li><li>Monitor and document progress toward IEP goals and report regularly to parents and the IEP team. </li><li>Use visuals, adaptive tools, and other accommodations to meet student needs. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Create and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for second-grade students with mild to moderate disabilities. </li><li>Deliver targeted small-group or one-on-one instruction in reading, writing, and math. </li><li>Use evidence-based instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools. </li><li>Foster a classroom culture that promotes self-regulation, confidence, and academic achievement. </li><li>Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching models. </li><li>Regularly assess and track student progress toward academic and behavioral goals. </li><li>Communicate frequently with parents and caregivers to provide updates and strategies for home support. </li><li>Work with school psychologists, speech/language pathologists, and other service providers. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's preferred). </li><li>Current state certification in Special Education. </li><li>Strong understanding of IEP development, data collection, and academic intervention strategies. </li><li>Knowledge of phonics-based reading instruction and elementary math intervention preferred. </li><li>Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer</p> <p>Lawrence Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment for employees and applicants.
