<p>The EAST Peer Mentor is an essential role in supporting student success through the College of</p> <p>EAST Mentor Initiative and the Office of Mentoring Programs. The Peer Mentor position is a</p> <p>high-impact educational experience, meaning that it allows mentors to actively apply their</p> <p>knowledge and skills to supporting their peers as well as their future careers. The Peer Mentor</p> <p>will be responsible for supporting the success of assigned mentees by providing intentional</p> <p>mentoring through one-on-one, small group, and drop-in settings in the following topic areas:</p> <p>? Navigation of campus resources (financial aid, registration, wellness, etc.) and College of</p> <p>EAST experience (services, clubs, career options, etc.)</p> <p>? Connection to campus and College of EAST (transition to college, making meaningful</p> <p>connections, participating in campus and community programs, etc.)</p> <p>? Preparation for graduation and beyond (resumes, leadership skills, communication skills, etc.)</p> <p>The EAST Peer Mentor will work under the supervision of the College of EAST staff and be</p> <p>supported by the Office of Mentoring Programs (i.e., meeting with Mentorship Development &</p> <p>Implementation Coordinator and a Peer Mentor Lead). Peer Mentors are required to attend and</p> <p>actively participate in training, staff meetings, workshops, etc., throughout the year as well as</p> <p>demonstrate a commitment to their team and the department's goals and expectations. Peer</p> <p>Mentors will be expected to complete the required training for certification during their first</p> <p>semester. Stellar performance in this role also allows for unique scholarship opportunities.</p> <p>EAST Mentoring - students with majors within the College of EAST will mentor fellow students in</p> <p>EAST, which may include EAST majors outside of the Peer Mentors' own major. Please keep</p> <p>in mind that this role may be for either the Davis campus or the Ogden campus, based on</p> <p>need and flexibility.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities:</p> <p>Leadership and Mentoring Duties:</p> <p>?Being a positive role model for mentees</p> <p>?Being a positive representative of the Peer Mentor Program & EAST at on and off-campus</p> <p>events as needed</p> <p>?Demonstrating an ability to work with different populations</p> <p>?Facilitating effective one-on-one and small group mentoring meetings</p> <p>?Facilitating campus programs participation of self and mentees</p> <p>?Facilitating/coordinating relevant workshops</p> <p>?Assist students with scholarship applications, FAFSA, registration, admission, and any other</p> <p>service that students need assistance with</p> <p>?Assist & facilitate outreach through a number of tabling events & class presentations</p> <p>throughout the academic year.</p> <p>?Demonstrating professionalism, excellent communication and listening skills, responsibility,</p> <p>accountability, integrity, and a desire to learn, grow, and develop as a leader</p> <p>?Being a responsible team member</p> <p>?Attending regular staff meetings, training, workshops, etc.</p> <p>?Actively giving, receiving, & implementing feedback regarding mentoring skills & performance</p> <p>in a timely manner.</p> <p>Administrative Duties:</p> <p>?Demonstrating timeliness and consistency with scheduled work time, showing proficiency in</p> <p>using WSU staff Google calendar/email, and timely communication with supervision and Peer</p> <p>Mentor Lead</p> <p>?Logging and tracking mentoring work (ie, mentoring sessions, outreach, event participation,</p> <p>etc.)</p> <p>?Professional, timely, and caring communication with supervisor, mentees, peers, and</p> <p>collaborators via email, phone, or in person</p> <p>?Implement Google Calendar for scheduling & managing appointments with mentees</p> <p>?Other tasks/duties as assigned by the supervisor and advisors with the Student Success</p> <p>Center</p> <p>?Peer Mentors working with specific cohorts/initiatives must attend additional training, be</p> <p>familiar with policies, timelines, and processes relevant to their mentees.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>?Education</p> <p>? 2.5 GPA or higher</p> <p>? Full-time (12 credits or more)</p> <p>? Undergraduate or Graduate student</p> <p>? 50/50 available; FAFSA/Work Study and HIEEs Pay Eligible Preferred</p> <p>? Must have completed at least two (2) semesters at WSU</p> <p>? Must have a declared major within the College of EAST (engineering, computer science,</p> <p>interior design, automotive, construction, professional sales, etc.)</p> <p>?Experience</p> <p>?All students have unique backgrounds and experiences, and all are encouraged to apply.</p> <p>?Must demonstrate an ability or desire to work effectively with a varying student population with</p> <p>unique challenges and needs</p> <p>?Skills</p> <p>?Excellent communication skills (presenting/communicating information, actively listening,</p> <p>mediating, conflict management)</p> <p>?Organizational and time management skills (Google Calendar experience preferred)</p> <p>?Team-oriented</p> <p>?Autonomous and proactive</p> <p>?Google Suite</p> <p>?Time Commitment</p> <p>?8-10 hours per week of front desk coverage required from 9 am-4 pm Monday through</p> <p>Thursday</p> <p>?5 hours per week of mentoring engagement</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>?Experience working with different types of students</p> <p>?Experience mentoring and/or motivating others</p> <p>?Experience coordinating programs and people's participation</p> <p>?Ability to travel between the Ogden and Davis campuses</p> <p>Background Check?
