<p>Job Description:</p> <p>2025 - 2026 School Year</p> <p>Bridgeport Public Schools</p> <p>Human Resources Department</p> <p>45 Lyon Terrace, Room 324</p> <p>Bridgeport, CT 06604</p> <p>BEHAVIOR SUPPORT SPECIALIST</p> <p>OFFICE of SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTION</p> <p>AFSCME LOCAL 1522 -</p> <p>(Step 1) - $59,475.00 (Step 6) $71,904*</p> <p>Current members of AFSCME LOCAL 1522 will be given first opportunity to fill the position.</p> <p>BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST</p> <p>OBJECTIVE</p> <p>The Behavior Specialist, in collaboration with other members of the Office of Specialized Instruction and School based teams, assists with consultation, development/design and implementation of behavioral/social/emotional interventions throughout the district.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Assist with linkages and referrals for youth identified as in need of community-based services in supports. </li><li>Assist in the development of targeted and intensive level interventions and strategies. </li><li>Provide direct services to a referred group of targeted students. </li><li>Develops methods of tracking effectiveness of behavior support plans </li><li>Regularly reviews and analyzes data and make changes to plans as necessary. </li><li>Prepare and provide CPI/PMT training to district staff on an "as needed" basis. </li><li>Assist teachers in the development and implementation of social skills curricula appropriate to students' ages and abilities. </li><li>Collaborate with school personnel in the development of behavior plans. </li><li>Assist in the development and implementation of alternative interventions to suspension. </li><li>Provide on-going staff observation and feedback related to behavioral treatment integrity. </li><li>Participates in meetings and professional development as required or appropriate. </li><li>Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information. </li><li>Models good attendance and punctuality. </li><li>Additional duties may be assigned by Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services and Operations and the Director of Specialized Instruction. </li></ul> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree required. </li><li>Five or more years of successful school-based experience in a special education environment preferred. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of psychology/behavior modification techniques. </li><li>Ability to implement/interpret behavior intervention plans, classroom systems, IEP's and reinforcement systems. </li><li>Current CPI or PMT trainer certification. </li><li>Collaborating with school personnel about behavioral/social/emotional health. </li><li>Evidence of diplomacy, flexibility, creativity and perseverance. </li><li>Effective facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills. </li></ul> <p>Posting Closes: Internal Posting closes 7/07/2025 (5 days from date posted).</p> <p>This job description is not, nor is it intended to be, a complete statement of all duties, functions, responsibilities, qualifications, physical, and cognitive, which comprise this position.
