Under the direct supervision of the building administration, the specialist will provide intervention services through the following roles and responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Work with school leadership team in creating systems and structures to ensure a sense of belonging for all students </li><li>Welcomes all families, promoting and valuing diversity and serving as a liaison in helping new families transition into our school system </li><li>Uses a variety of communication approaches with parents to show sensitivity and respect to cultures and languages. </li><li>Provide individual and group tier two support to students in developing skills related to self-regulation, conflict resolution, coping, and problem solving. </li><li>Assist in the development of school-wide tier two programs as part of the MTSS framework. </li><li>Analyze behavior and implement de-escalation strategies. </li><li>Implement restorative practices to foster and maintain mutual respect, resolve problems through a supportive environment, and make positive changes. </li><li>Encourage a positive atmosphere among students throughout the school day and on school transportation. </li><li>Supervise students during unstructured times such as arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess. </li><li>Communicate with teachers and support staff regarding student needs. </li><li>Partner with families and school staff to support attendance efforts such as home visits. </li></ul> <p>South Windsor is a diverse community of approximately 27,000 citizens and more than 5,100 public school students. SWPS is comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school (6-8), and one high school (9-12), all of which cultivate and support culturally responsive classrooms and learning communities. A bachelor's degree in education, social services, or related field is required. Training or experience in counseling is preferred.</p> <p>Schedule: Work year will consist of a total of 210 days. These days will consist of all student attendance days (182), all professional development days (4), and an additional twenty-four (24) days to be scheduled in collaboration with the administration at South Windsor High School to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.</p> <p>Apply online at www.southwindsorschools.org under the District Information link.
