<p>Classification</p> <p>Regular</p> <p>Minimum Pay</p> <p>$23.55</p> <p>Compensation will be commensurate with the level of the position, education, and experience.</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY</p> <p>The Horticulture Coordinator is responsible for implementing the strategic direction, operational management, and overall performance of the horticulture department. This role involves supervising Horticulture Lab Assistants and other departmental staff to ensure the efficient operation of lab, greenhouse, garden, and classroom spaces. The Coordinator will develop and implement departmental policies, coordinate with other departments, and drive initiatives to support horticultural education, and operational project goals.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates the set-up and supply needs for all HLSM classes. </li><li>Supervises HLSM staff, including shift leaders, garden specialists, and others as assigned. </li><li>Leads the growing and local-food collaboration efforts between CULI and HLSM faculty. </li><li>Leads employee recruitment, retention and development efforts for HLSM staff. </li><li>Assures the safe and effective use of MCC property, supplies and equipment. </li><li>Participate in outreach, recruitment and retention activities. </li><li>Coordinate procurement of all equipment and supplies with CHH and MCC Purchasing personnel. </li><li>Reports regularly to the Dean and faculty. </li><li>Coordinates completion of facility repair and maintenance needs with MCC Facilities. </li><li>Maintains daily storeroom requisitions and purchases. </li><li>Adheres to department and college policies and procedures, and ensures standards are met for accreditation; federal, state, and local sanitation guidelines; and safe storage regulations. </li><li>Fosters and promotes a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee workplace morale. </li><li>Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of federal, state, and local sanitation laws. </li><li>Deep knowledge of farm, garden, and animal husbandry operations. </li><li>Knowledge of inventory management systems. </li><li>Proficient verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Solid planning and organizational skills. </li><li>Skill in supervising and training employees. </li><li>Detail orientated skills. </li><li>Ability to work with students from all backgrounds and populations. </li><li>Ability to lift 100lbs occasionally and/or up to 50lbs frequently and/or up to 20lbs constantly to move objects. </li><li>Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team environment. </li><li>Ability to maintain professionalism, patience, cooperation and understanding in stressful in all situations. </li><li>Ability to develop, implement quality and organizational standards. </li><li>Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor degree in Horticulture, Land Systems, and Management or related field </li><li>Four (4) years of experience working in general horticulture, landscape, professional garden, agriculture or urban farm operation with one year including academic planning or management/supervision. </li><li>Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered. </li><li>Must pass a background check. </li><li>Must possess a valid driver's license. </li></ul> <p>The specific statements shown in each section of this description are not intended to be all inclusive.
