<p>Strasburg Rail Road Company</p> <p>Position Description</p> <p>Position Title: Custodian/Groundskeeper</p> <p>FLSA: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Worker Category: Full-time</p> <p>Retirement: 401k</p> <p>Position Reports To: Director of Grounds</p> <p>POSITION PURPOSE: The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and</p> <p>overall appearance of indoor and outdoor facilities. This role involves performing routine</p> <p>cleaning, sanitation, and small maintenance tasks within buildings, as well as landscaping and</p> <p>groundskeeping duties to ensure well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces.</p> <p>Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, trash removal, restroom maintenance, lawn care, and</p> <p>minor repairs to facilities and equipment. The Groundskeeper plays a key role in providing a clean,</p> <p>safe, and welcoming environment for employees, residents, and visitors while adhering to safety</p> <p>regulations and operational standards.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Custodial Duties </li><li>Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors in buildings and common areas. </li><li>Dust and wipe down furniture, surfaces, and fixtures. </li><li>Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners. </li><li>Sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and replenishing supplies. </li><li>Clean windows, doors, and entryways as needed. </li><li>Respond to spills, messes, and emergency cleanups in a timely manner. </li><li>Monitor and report maintenance issues, such as leaks, damages, or needed repairs. </li><li>Groundskeeping Duties </li><li>Mow, trim, edge, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas. </li><li>Water plants, trees, and flower beds as needed. </li><li>Remove weeds, debris, leaves, and litter from outdoor areas. </li><li>Maintain sidewalks, parking lots, and entryways, including snow/ice removal when necessary. </li><li>Inspect and perform minor maintenance on outdoor structures such as benches, fences, and </li></ul> <p>signage.</p> <ul> <li>Operate and maintain groundskeeping tools and equipment safely. </li><li>Engage with Guests in active conversation, inquiring if they need assistance, and assisting </li></ul> <p>Guests as needed.</p> <ul> <li>Assisting physically disabled Guests in boarding and disembarking train cars. </li><li>Seasonal duties include but are not limited to landscaping, snow removal, and tending of coal </li></ul> <p>fires.</p> <ul> <li>Other duties as required. </li></ul> <p>PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Consistently exhibits a positive, helpful attitude toward Guests, including the ability to speak </li></ul> <p>clearly and convey information accurately.</p> <ul> <li>Pays attention to detail, shows a desire to learn, and executes tasks as directed. </li><li>Spreads accurate information about the railroad and its history to our Guests. </li><li>Works well independently as well as with a team. </li><li>Is self-motivated and demonstrates initiative. </li><li>Presents a neat and clean appearance. </li><li>Demonstrates a consistent eagerness to answer questions and always serve Guests or potential </li></ul> <p>customers with a positive attitude.</p> <ul> <li>Follows scheduling request policies. </li><li>Responds in a timely fashion to supervisor or manager requests (e.g. regarding scheduling). </li><li>Reports on time for work and meetings. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Self-motivated with a strong work ethic. </li><li>Ability to work on his/her own or in teams. </li><li>Written and oral communication should be accurate and professional. </li><li>Detail-oriented organizational habits and the ability to prioritize tasks. </li><li>Must be able to lift to 50 pounds. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <ul> <li>Rotating shifts and hours vary based on train operating schedules and availability. Start time </li></ul> <p>can vary anywhere from 3:45am-Noon (subject to change).</p> <ul> <li>Weekends and Holidays required. </li><li>Work is primarily outdoors. </li><li>Frequent walking and standing for long periods of time. </li><li>Occasional lifting, bending, and twisting. </li></ul> <p>INTENT AND FUNCTION OF JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>Job descriptions assist organizations in ensuring that the hiring process is fairly administered</p> <p>and that qualified employees are selected.
