<p>Department Community & Economic Development - Health Bureau Type of Position Full-Time, Contract Salary/Pay Rate $27.85 - $31.90 per hour based on experience Deadline to Apply ongoing MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in public health or related field with a minimum of one year of experience in health education.</p> <p>Experience in tobacco control, substance use prevention, or related public health programming is highly desirable.</p> <p>Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license. REQUIREMENTS Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, and drug test. May be required to work evening and weekend events.</p> <p>NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED This is a professional position in the field of chronic disease prevention. The Community Health Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating evidence-based public health initiatives.</p> <p>The position includes direct community engagement, program planning, and data-driven evaluation activities. The Community Health Specialist will support tobacco cessation counseling, deliver tobacco and vaping prevention education, and support overdose prevention efforts, including naloxone education and distribution activities. The position also assists with coordination, documentation, and follow-up activities of the Overdose Fatality Review (OFR) Team to strengthen community-level prevention strategies.</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED - Develops, implements, and evaluates public health prevention interventions in the community;</p> <ul> <li>Analyzes quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends and priority public health needs; </li><li>Promotes health prevention and education in the community; - Builds and maintains partnerships with community partners; </li><li>Supports the coordination of the Overdose Fatality Review Team, including tracking recommendations and assisting with the implementation of prevention strategies; </li><li>Assists with naloxone education and distribution; -- </li><li>Conducts tobacco cessation counseling to individuals and groups seeking to quit tobacco and nicotine use; </li><li>Develops public health campaigns and presentations; - </li><li>Participates and contributes to the development and implementation of departmental prevention strategies; </li><li>Submits programmatic reports, performance measures, and statistical data as required by funding agencies and departmental leadership; </li><li>Participates in quality improvement activities. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of evidence-based public health education programs; ability to write and speak in public and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to diverse populations across all age groups and cultural backgrounds; ability to organize and manage time; ability to work independently to meet program objectives and grant deliverables; ability to collect and analyze data and apply findings; proficiency in Microsoft Office; performs related work as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Spanish or other bilingual skills a plus.
