<p>The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.</p> <p>The core values of CARES guide our work for communities and inform our behavior toward each other and all those we serve.</p> <ul> <li>Commitment: Dedicated to the mission at all times </li><li>Accountability: Responsible to each other and the community </li><li>Resilience: Adapt in the face of adversity </li><li>Excellence: Achieve and maintain the highest quality </li><li>Service: Innovate to meet evolving needs </li></ul> <p>The Forensic Mortuary Technician I tasks include, but are not limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li>Assisting the Mortuary Operations Supervisors in day-to-day unit operations and following their directions. </li><li>Assists Forensic Autopsy Services Unit as needed. </li><li>Performing all Mortuary Procedures and decedent handling (METT, Check In, Storage, Release of Remains, Intake and Release photos, and Fingerprinting). </li><li>Preparing incident reports, schedules, and statistics as needed. </li><li>Operate OCME Case Management System (CMS), CMS Mobile App, and other systems as needed, for all documents (Death Certificates, Burial Permits) relating to the intake and release of remains. </li><li>Ensuring that the Mortuary areas are properly cleaned, stocked, and sanitized daily </li><li>Reporting all complaints, accidents, and any incidents to the proper personnel. </li><li>Performing all City Morgue Technician duties as needed. </li><li>Weigh remains, lift remains into storage compartments and . </li><li>Boxes and loads City Burial as needed. </li><li>Operating a motor vehicle, driving to and from death scenes to perform case recovery. </li><li>Adhere to all unit policies and procedures </li><li>Taking fingerprints of remains before, during, and/or after autopsy. </li><li>Performing borough case reconciliations. </li><li>Attends unit and agency meetings as requested. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL NOTE:</p> <p>Selected candidates will be required to provide a DNA sample by swabbing.</p> <p>This position has been identified as essential.
