<p>Utah Valley University is seeking for student to assists the School of Education's Creative Learning Studio.</p> <p>With the guidance of SOE faculty, the student fellow will:</p> <ul> <li>Facilitate high-quality, inclusive, culturally-responsive STEM programming </li><li>Develop additional STEM programming activities, lessons, or curriculum under direction of the CLS Coordinators </li><li>Respect and affirm the diversity of student backgrounds and experiences in your STEM facilitation </li><li>Assist in the set-up, troubleshooting, and maintenance of makerspace equipment </li><li>Collaborate with members across the statewide network </li><li>Use UIHNP to track participant satisfaction, demographic information, and social-emotional development through the use of pre-made surveys </li><li>Recruit, train and supervise community volunteers and/or older students to expand capacity of makerspace programming </li><li>Current UVU Student </li><li>Flexibility in work schedule </li><li>Available 7-10 hours per week </li><li>Available in May and June to assist with the UVU Prep Program </li><li>Current driver's license and access to a vehicle </li><li>Experience working with children or youth </li><li>Preference will be given to those that have an interest in pursuing a career in education, STEM, or another related field. </li><li>Must be 17 years old and a citizen of the United States. </li><li>Must produce these documents prior to enrollment: U.S. birth certificate or passport, driver's license, and social security card. </li><li>Must submit to and pass an FBI background check/National Sex Offender Database check conducted prior to hire in accordance with NSCHC requirements. </li><li>Interest in makerspaces and a solid maker mindset. </li><li>Be proficient with basic computer software. </li><li>Be able to collaborate with site-supervisors, volunteers, program Managers, and other Members. </li><li>Complete pre-service and annual training modules on the Canvas learning management system </li><li>Participate in weekly training assignments and discussions, as well as monthly collaboration group meetings about such topics as working with youth, recruiting volunteers, etc. and provide them with the opportunity to learn from AmeriCorps Members serving at other Hubs </li><li>Complete a minimum of 25 (quarter time) community service hours to aid the community with needs beyond their regular tutoring program responsibilities (based on a Site Supervisor-approved plan). Organize and participate in community service projects on 9/11 Remembrance Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (hours involved are part of the community service hours) </li><li>Complete hours under the site supervisor's supervision and record on timesheet prior to the 5th of each month </li><li>Meet all other requirements of the contractual agreement (explained and signed at pre-service orientation) </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Proficiency in an additional language (i.e. Spanish, Dine/Navajo, etc.). </li><li>Knowledge of Utah Core standards. </li><li>Ability to maintain professional relationships. </li><li>Ability to collaborate with faculty, peers, and classroom teachers. </li><li>Detail-oriented and organized. </li><li>Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, G Suite). </li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills. </li><li>Ability to create lesson plans. </li><li>Ability to work independently without close supervision. </li><li>Ability to participate in on-going training. </li></ul>
