<p>Position Title: Director of Military Affairs</p> <p>Reports to: Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs</p> <p>Classification: Exempt</p> <p>WC Code: 8868</p> <p>Position Type: Third Level Administrator</p> <p>Florida National University contributes to the education of a diverse student body within the community it serves. FNU employs and develops a faculty of scholars proficient in the art of teaching. We strive to prepare students for employment in their chosen careers through quality education and instruction.</p> <p>Major Responsibilities: The Director of Military Affairs is responsible for all military recruiting and retention efforts within the academic institution. The Director manages Department of Defense contacts and interacts with accrediting bodies of military branches. The Director of Military Affairs is responsible for military branch partnerships, and manages the relationships with military facilities, Education Specialist Offices, and military controller's office.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Communication Management: Respond promptly to daily communications via email and voicemail, addressing inquiries promptly and professionally. </li><li>Policy Adherence and Ethical Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the University's mission, policies, procedures, ethical standards, compliance with data protection regulations and pertinent legal regulations in all aspects of admission activities. </li><li>University Engagement: Participate in Commencement Exercises, new student orientation, university events, committees, self-studies, and University Commencement Ceremonies. </li><li>Special Projects: Execute special projects assigned by the President or supervisor. </li><li>Compliance Adherence: Ensure compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, as well as FNU Policies, Procedures, Rules and Regulation, the FNU Code of Ethics, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (FIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. </li><li>Assigned Duties: Undertake other assigned duties as required. </li></ul> <p>Specific Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Develop effective strategies to create a military-friendly environment where active-duty military, former military, and their dependents can pursue their academic, professional, and personal goals </li><li>Coordinate Department of Defense invoicing and collection of funds with the designated FNU DoD Point of Contact. </li><li>Collaborate with the Corporate Director of Admissions, to develop and implement strategies to manage recruitment and enrollment of enlisted personnel, veterans, and their dependents. </li><li>Collaborate with the Office of Financial Aid, as needed, to support veteran students navigate military benefits for tuition. </li><li>Maintain contact and collaboration with Vocational Rehabilitation to support veteran students, as needed. </li><li>Attend military events to establish and maintain relationships with key military personnel, which can enhance the Military Affairs initiatives of FNU. </li><li>Develop partnerships with local JROTC units at High Schools throughout South Florida. </li><li>Maintain effective communication with potential and existing military students and assist prospective students throughout the enrollment process. </li><li>Staff the FNU Office of Military Affairs, so that military students have a readily accessible point of contact. </li><li>Develop workshops and events that focus on the needs of military students. </li><li>Develop workshops and events that focus on faculty and staff development that help enhance the experience of military students within FNU. </li><li>Manage the (800) numbers that are allocated to prospective student inquiries from active-duty personnel. </li><li>Promote and grow relationships with corporate partners that have a high concentration of veteran and former military personnel. </li><li>Promote and grow relationships with educational partners that have a focus on serving active military, and former military personnel and their dependents. </li><li>Develop partnerships with Defense contractors, and other businesses within the sphere of military activity to recruit, and/or assist with placement of students. </li><li>Develop and maintain the Student Veterans Association chapters at FNU. </li><li>Develop and maintain corporate partnerships that support and grow the Military Affairs efforts of FNU. </li><li>Provide primary advising and support to student veterans, coordinating with multiple university resources, such as, admissions, academic advising, student services, and Academic Affairs to improve the academic outcomes of student veterans. </li><li>Serve as the Accessibility Coordinator for the student veteran population. </li><li>Maintain the dedicated student veteran meeting space and promote activities to engage student veterans with partners from the community. </li><li>Pursuing and attending professional development that focuses on leading a military affairs office and serving a military veteran population within higher education. </li><li>Travel, as required, to develop community and military contacts to expand and grow military affairs initiatives for FNU. </li><li>Understanding of computerized systems, Colleague, and Salesforce or other Customer Relationship Management applications preferred. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred in higher education administration, public administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field. </li><li>Prior military service, with an Honorable Discharge. </li><li>Deep familiarity with VA education benefits, Tuition Assistance programs, and military-connected student needs. </li><li>Familiarity with FERPA, VA audits, and compliance reporting is essential. </li><li>Experience with student information systems. </li><li>Strong written and oral communication skills are expected. </li><li>Understanding of the unique challenges veterans and active-duty students face (transition issues, military culture, mental health concerns, stop-outs) is important. </li></ul> <p>Job Type</p> <p>Full-time</p>
