Work involves the use of custodial supplies and cleaning equipment and may involve the moving and lifting of heavy furniture. Work is performed in accordance with a well-established routine and is subject to inspection during progress or upon completion for attainment of established standards of cleanliness.</p> <p>Located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Millersville University of Pennsylvania is one of the 10 public universities of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. Individual may perform all or some of the primary tasks listed below.</p> <ul> <li>Clean and sanitize bathrooms, lobbies, corridors, recreation areas, laundry rooms, kitchens, elevators, stairwells, and study rooms, restrooms, locker rooms drinking fountains/bottle fillers, and all touch surfaces in buildings. </li><li>Perform all aspects of floor care to include sweep, mop, strip, seal, wax, extract, burnish vacuum, scrub, etc. </li><li>Empty, clean and sanitize waste and recycling receptacles. Sort and transport materials to designated locations. </li><li>Dust (high and low); clean entrances, glass and windows, scrub and wash walls and blinds. </li><li>Wash boards and clean trays in classroom. Reconfigure desks, tables, and chairs. </li><li>Move and arrange furniture, chairs, tables, stage platforms and equipment for various events. </li><li>Maintain entryways in a clean, presentable manner. Shovel snow, sweep and clean walks, and assist in keeping immediate outside premises and building entrances in an orderly condition. </li><li>Make minor maintenance repairs. Keep custodial and mechanical rooms clean, organized and properly stocked. Check and clean equipment and tools of trade. </li><li>Clean light fixtures, replace bulbs, replace clock batteries, and clean HVAC vents. </li><li>Identify supplies for reordering monthly. Avoid excessive stockpiles. </li><li>Inspect areas for cleanliness, facility deficiencies or mechanical failures, and other inappropriate conditions. Submit work orders for deficient/defective items. </li><li>Professionally and thoroughly addresses customer complaints. </li><li>Coordinate all work with building occupants or others as required. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Safety:</p> <ul> <li>Work safely by using Personal Protective Equipment, maintaining equipment, following safety procedures and policies, etc. </li><li>Complete required safety training. Stay current on safety measures for trade. </li><li>Identify and report safety issues related to equipment, actions, or processes. </li><li>Immediately report accidents and incidents to include near misses. </li><li>If injured during work, report incident to your supervisor and complete the accident form. </li><li>Review SDS for chemicals related to the department. </li><li>Leave work area clean and orderly at the end of shift and/or job </li><li>Resolve pending hazards in a timely fashion. </li><li>Cooperate with safety investigations and audits. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Ability to read and understand written directives, instructions, procedural manuals, warning and special handling labels and safety precautions </li><li>Ability to follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. </li><li>Ability to work independently and in coordination with others </li><li>Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others </li><li>Successful completion of three background checks. </li><li>Successful interview. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Related experience. </li><li>Knowledge of the materials, methods, equipment, and practices used in related custodial operations such as floor care, restroom service, trash and recycling collection and disposal, laundry distribution, window washing and glass care, snow removal, event set ups, dusting, mopping, vector control, etc. </li><li>Knowledge of safe, aseptic cleaning, sanitation, and custodial quality assurance procedures. </li><li>Knowledge of the operation, use and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other cleaning equipment. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds without assistance </li><li>Requires extensive walking, stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending, and lifting </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions </li><li>Must be able to occasionally climb ladders and shovel snow </li><li>Will encounter presence of dust, odors, chemicals, and other potentially hazardous materials </li><li>Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (respirators, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, proper footwear, clothing, etc.) </li><li>Ability to sit and stand for long lengths of time </li><li>Able to reach and lift above shoulders, have full operation of arms and hands, squat, stoop/bend, stretch, twist, have fine and gross manipulation of hands, simple and power grasp, and twist hands and wrists </li><li>Repetitive use of hands from strenuous manual labor - gross and fine manipulation is required </li><li>Work in various weather conditions. </li></ul> <p>Posting Open Date 05/02/2025 Posting Close Date Special Instructions to Applicants</p> <ul> <li>This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement. </li><li>This position is designated an essential employee position.
