Our Center for Sustainable Careers (CSC) department expands access to family-sustaining careers through hands-on learning, on-the-job training and job quality initiatives. We have sector-based career tracks in solar installation, roofing and utility infrastructure. Our program model has proven powerfully successful, with over 1,000 CSC graduates since 2003, an impressive average job placement rate of 85% and starting wages of over $19 per hour. For more information, please visit http://sustainablecareers.civicworks.com/.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Senior Career Navigator plays a critical role on the Career Services team, guiding program participants and graduates toward family-sustaining careers. This multifaceted role encompasses designing and implementing employment readiness curriculum, training staff on effective delivery methods, managing a dedicated caseload, and providing individualized coaching and assessment services. The Navigator manages participants throughout their entire career development journey, from initial skills building through job placement and beyond, including ongoing graduate retention and advancement support. Working closely with staff members, the Navigator identifies and facilitates participant placement in on-the-job training opportunities both within the organization and with external employer partners. The role emphasizes building meaningful relationships with participants and graduates to ensure sustainable career outcomes and strengthen the overall program ecosystem.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities:</p> <p>1) Support participants in building their professional development skills</p> <ul> <li>Design and implement a comprehensive employment readiness curriculum. </li><li>Train and mentor staff members on effective curriculum delivery and best practices for participant engagement. </li><li>Guide participants through job application preparation including resume & cover letter writing, and other essential job search materials. </li><li>Provide individualized, strength-based coaching to enhance participants' professional skills in areas such as workplace communication, interview techniques, networking, and strategic career planning. </li><li>Facilitate interactive professional development workshops covering essential workplace competencies and career advancement strategies. </li><li>Build meaningful relationships with participants and provide ongoing motivation and support throughout their career development journey. </li></ul> <p>2) Coordinate participants' progress toward job placement</p> <ul> <li>Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate participants' strengths, identify development areas, and support their ongoing professional growth. </li><li>Partner with the Job Readiness Manager to evaluate participant readiness for employment and coordinate seamless handoffs between program phases. </li><li>Facilitate strategic job matching and placement support by connecting participants with suitable employment opportunities and providing guidance through all stages of the application, interview, and hiring process. </li><li>Maintain comprehensive documentation in Salesforce to ensure program accountability. </li></ul> <p>3) Support high quality graduate employment outcomes</p> <ul> <li>Provide ongoing retention and career advancement support through continued coaching, professional development resources, and career planning. </li><li>Deliver targeted job search assistance to unemployed graduates, including resume review, interview preparation, and connections to new employment opportunities. </li><li>Track and analyze graduate employment data to measure program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement. </li><li>Offer tailored placement support for graduates pursuing alternative career paths beyond target industries. </li><li>Design and facilitate regular job search workshops and skill-building opportunities for both current participants and graduates. </li><li>Strengthen employer-graduate partnerships by facilitating ongoing communication channels, helping graduates understand and meet employer expectations, and leveraging graduate feedback to support employer engagement and job quality initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Secondary Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Participate in staff and training team meetings. </li><li>Assist training staff with random drug screens as needed </li></ul> <p>Desired Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum 5 years of combined experience in workforce development and adult education/training programs, with demonstrated success in participant outcomes and program delivery. </li><li>Experienced in curriculum design, delivery, and evaluation for adult learners in professional development settings. </li><li>Proficiency with CRM systems and data tracking platforms (Salesforce preferred) for managing participant information and generating program reports. </li><li>Individualized coaching and mentorship experience with proven ability to motivate and guide job seekers toward achieving their career goals. </li><li>Advanced communication and facilitation skills to support participant engagement and skill development. </li><li>Strong conflict resolution skills to navigate challenging situations and maintain positive participant relationships. </li><li>Strong technology proficiency including excellent computer skills, comprehensive note-taking abilities, and comfort with digital platforms for program delivery and documentation. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Industry-specific experience in roofing, solar, or related construction/green energy sectors. </li><li>Technology integration expertise for industry mapping, labor market analysis, and innovative job placement strategies. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Exceptional organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize and meet tight deadlines independently. </li><li>Outstanding written and verbal communication skills ; able to convey complex professional concepts to diverse audiences. </li><li>Advanced interpersonal and relationship-building expertise encompassing coaching, mentorship, active listening, and the ability to bridge perspectives between participants and employers. </li><li>Collaborative and flexible team player, responsive to evolving program needs and shared goals. </li><li>Effective facilitation and classroom management skills with demonstrated ability to engage adult learners. </li><li>Technical proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite , and other digital platforms. </li><li>Problem-solving and adaptability with resilience to navigate challenges, and develop solutions under pressure. </li><li>Professional integrity and confidentiality with strict adherence to privacy guidelines in handling sensitive participant information. </li><li>Commitment to excellence in workforce development with dedication to creating respectful, high-quality learning environments that promote participant success. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment & Schedule:</p> <ul> <li>The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday from 7:30am-3:30pm. </li><li>This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule. Candidates must be able to commute to the Baltimore City office at least four days per week, with the option to work remotely up to one day per week. During the 90-day orientation period, additional in-office days will be required. This arrangement is subject to change based on organizational needs and may be adjusted to include additional in-person time. </li></ul>
