We are an equal opportunity employer; no information obtained during the recruitment/selection process is intended for any discriminatory purposes.</p> <p>Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule</p> <p>Grade: 113</p> <p>Salary: $14.78 - $18.92 Hourly (Dependent on Qualifications)</p> <p>Department: Municipal Court - City Detention Center</p> <p>E-mail: Nicolep2@cctexas.com</p> <p>ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION IS AS FOLLOWS:</p> <p>Rotating shifts (24/7/365); 36 hour and 48 hour work week; 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., or, 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. Must be available for occasional overtime.</p> <p>Who May Apply?</p> <p>All persons legally authorized to work in the United States</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>Detention Officers for the Municipal Court of Corpus Christi process prisoners at the City Magistration & Detention Center. This position includes, but not limited to, assist in the monitoring and security of the Detention Center's daily operations, arrange for the safe custody and release of prisoners, and oversee the transfer of prisoners to the Nueces County Jail.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Detention Officers assess prisoners for injuries, medical conditions, mental health issues, and degrees of potential intoxication or other impairment </li><li>Inventory and document prisoners personal property </li><li>Recognize and report contraband, illegal drugs, weapons, potential weapons, and self-injure items </li><li>Ensure arrest documentation is in order, complete, and signed </li><li>Assist in the Magistration process of prisoners </li><li>Detention Officers must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions by: </li></ul> <p>o Getting along with co-workers and peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes</p> <p>o Performing work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or communicating with others</p> <p>o Responding appropriately to criticism from a supervisor</p> <ul> <li>May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Processing prisoners at the City of Corpus Christi's Magistrate & Detention Center, by restraining and exercising necessary control over belligerent and unruly prisoners; maintaining strict control of prisoner's personal property; search incoming prisoners; processing Personal, Surety or Cash Bonds as required; recording personal property of prisoners and processing information into the Detention Center database; and, retaining control of all prisoners while in custody. </li><li>Completing a multi-step process of booking prisoners in by: performing a background check for confirmation of outstanding warrants by utilizing the Police and Court's computer systems; obtaining fingerprints and photographs of all prisoners in custody; classifying fingerprints and assigned codes; searching fingerprint files to identify prisoners in custody for aliases. </li><li>Providing departmental assistance by: answering telephones, maintaining files, entering data into computer system and generating reports such as daily shift logs, and housing reports; and by testifying in court regarding identification matters if necessary. Detention Officers must be able to complete all required reports accurately and timely. </li><li>This position may necessitate traveling/driving within the City by utilizing a Detention Center vehicle to transport prisoners to the Nueces County Jail. Must be able to communicate with MetroCom by radio. </li><li>Maintaining professional and technical knowledge and skills by keeping required licenses/certifications current. </li><li>Completing any other assignments or tasks that may be assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Detention Center Manager, or Administration Management. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Qualifications </li><li>High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Six (6) months of related experience </li><li>Experience working in a detention/jail/corrections environment preferred </li><li>Must be eligible for Basic Certification as a Peace Officer by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) </li><li>Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 12 months of hire </li><li>Must be able to pass a physical agility assessment in addition to other required pre-employment screenings and/or testing </li><li>A valid driver's license is required at time of hire. </li><li>Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire </li></ul> <p>Other Information:</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>The City offers an excellent benefit package that includes:</p> <ul> <li>Texas Municipal Retirement System - TMRS is a required retirement plan for all full time employees. Each employee automatically contributes 6% of their total compensation and will increase to 7% effective January 1, 2019.
