DPS recruits and commits to educators with passion, who are committed to our vision to aspire to advance ALL learners to their highest potential.</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>We are seeking a Bilingual Portuguese Teacher to join the faculty at Danbury High School. The ideal candidate will support students in developing Portuguese language proficiency, cultural awareness, and academic skills aligned with state and national world language standards. Candidates should be student-centered, flexible, and enthusiastic about teaching in a diverse, multicultural high school setting. The teacher will be responsible for creating an inclusive and engaging classroom environment, delivering effective instruction, and collaborating with colleagues to support student success.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver high-quality Portuguese instruction aligned to curriculum standards and the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages </li><li>Develop and implement lesson plans that reflect differentiation and culturally responsive practices </li><li>Establish a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom culture conducive to learning </li><li>Manage classroom behavior and set consistent routines and expectations </li><li>Assess student learning regularly using formative and summative assessments; adjust instruction as needed </li><li>Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress </li><li>Communicate regularly with families to support student learning and engagement </li><li>Participate in school-based teams, professional learning communities, and relevant department meetings </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and grade levels </li><li>Utilize instructional technology and digital tools to enhance learning </li><li>Contribute to the school community and promote a respectful, inclusive environment </li><li>Engage in continuous professional learning to improve practice and student outcomes </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:</p> <ul> <li>Strong content knowledge in Portuguese language, grammar, and culture </li><li>Effective instructional and classroom management skills </li><li>Familiarity with ACTFL standards and proficiency-based instruction </li><li>Experience working with students in diverse, multilingual settings </li><li>Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners </li><li>Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills </li><li>Ability to integrate technology into instruction </li><li>Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and equity </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Active Connecticut certification in Bilingual Education - Portuguese (endorsement 901) </li><li>Bachelor's Degree in Education, Spanish, or related field (Master's preferred) </li><li>Demonstrated success working in a multicultural, urban high school setting </li><li>Human relations skills to work effectively with students, families, and staff </li><li>Ability to prepare engaging, standards-based lesson plans </li><li>Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Danbury Board of Education may find appropriate </li></ul> <p>Salary: Salary and wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education which can be found on our website.</p> <p>Apply online at www.danbury.k12.ct.us</p>
