<p>Phlebotomist I</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>The primary role of the Phlebotomist I is to efficiently perform various duties including troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements. This position involves assisting with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. </li><li>Centrifuge and store specimens according to established procedures. </li><li>Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients. </li><li>Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. </li><li>Understand and follow all physician orders. </li><li>Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. </li><li>Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. </li><li>Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are checked against script for accuracy. </li><li>Package specimens securely for transport. </li><li>Store specimen samples according to required temperature guidelines. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Phlebotomy </li><li>Blood Draw </li><li>Venipuncture </li><li>Pediatric and Geriatric specimen collection </li><li>Handling hard sticks </li><li>Using butterfly needles </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>At least 1 year of experience </li><li>Bilingual skills, particularly Spanish-speaking, would be a huge plus </li><li>Hospital experience is beneficial </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The position is based at the Patient Service Center in East Syracuse. The regular working hours are Monday to Friday, from 6:45 AM to 3:45 PM, with rotating Saturday shifts from 7 AM to 11 AM.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job</p> <p>classification and length of employment.
