<p>Writing Tutor (PT)</p> <p>Salary: $20.31 per hour</p> <p>Location: Utica, NY</p> <p>Mohawk Valley Community College provides accessible, high-quality educational opportunities to meet the diverse needs of our students. We are the community's college, committed to student success through partnerships, transfer and career pathways, and personal enrichment.</p> <p>The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a part-time Writing Tutor in our Learning Commons. This position helps students build confidence and improve academic performance through holistic support, active learning strategies, study skills development, and individualized instruction.</p> <p>Key responsibilities for this position include:</p> <ul> <li>Uses probing questions, active listening, and supported inquiry to help students develop and strengthen their ideas; </li><li>Provides individualized strategies to strengthen students' writing process; </li><li>Engages students in active learning practices; </li><li>Discusses course material to help students gain fluency and confidence in critical thinking; </li><li>Assists students in developing effective study strategies; </li><li>Provides encouragement to support student retention and completion; </li><li>Maintains accurate records and monitor sign-in stations; </li><li>Refers students to instructors and specialized services such as counseling and advisement as appropriate; </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Learning Commons. </li></ul> <p>The successful candidate is a strong writer and dedicated learner who is comfortable working with students with a range of academic skills and from a variety of backgrounds. Candidate should also be comfortable supporting writing in a variety of discipline and available to work 20 - 29 hours per week.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree </li><li>Significant experience in academic writing including a foundational knowledge of common citation styles </li><li>Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint </li><li>Effective verbal communication skills </li><li>Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in college teaching or tutoring </li></ul> <p>We encourage applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have transferable skills to apply.
