<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Title: Local Consumer Protection Advocate</p> <p>Unit: Part-Time Non-Unit Staff</p> <p>Department: Academic Affairs Division, Law Center</p> <p>Reports to: Law Center Director</p> <p>Date: August 27, 2025</p> <p>General Summary: Since 1989, the Middlesex Community College Law Center has offered community dispute resolution, face-to-face mediation, and conflict resolution services. These programs are free for all and are supported by MCC and the Attorney General's Office. The College is seeking an individual to work on a part-time basis to serve as the Local Consumer Protection (LCP) Advocate. The LCP Advocate is responsible for a caseload of consumer complaints received from the Attorney General and manages a caseload of up to 25-30 cases at any given time.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Conduct telephone advocacy to resolve individual consumer complaints</p> </li><li> <p>Keep detailed case notes immediately and contemporaneously as each case progresses</p> </li><li> <p>Write clear and concise case notes so that others can understand the status of the case at any given time</p> </li><li> <p>Provide consumer information, resources, education and assistance to the public, referrals to legal aid resources and or governmental agencies</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in regular training sessions on mediation and Law Center policies and procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Answer incoming phone calls to the Law Center and take detailed messages</p> </li><li> <p>Process Law Center regular mail and email according to prescribed guidelines</p> </li><li> <p>Update the OnBase database of assigned cases daily</p> </li><li> <p>Check for newly assigned cases every work day</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly review all cases with supervisor and/or assigned mentor</p> </li><li> <p>Draft specialized letters to Consumers or Businesses (with supervision/permission)</p> </li><li> <p>Research business background and applicable local, state and federal laws for each case</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain working knowledge of all Law Center programs</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct introductory calls to consumers and businesses</p> </li><li> <p>Send introductory letters to consumers and businesses</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in outreach activities as needed</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as required</p> </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Associate Degree in a related field </li><li>Database experience </li><li>Customer service experience or experience with the public working in a related position </li><li>Foreign language fluency a plus </li><li>Ability to work independently </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Salary Range: $26.75 actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.</p> <p>Location: Bedford campus with occasional travel to Lowell as needed</p> <p>Hours: 18 of hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire</p> <p>Expected Start Date: September/ October 2025</p> <p>Application Deadline: September 17, 2025</p> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>All applicants must apply online by submitting:</p> <ul> <li>Cover Letter </li><li>Resume </li><li>Names and contact information for three (3) professional references </li></ul> <p>Pre-Employment Requirements:</p> <p>The College will not sponsor applicants for work visas.</p> <p>All offers of employment at Middlesex Community College are contingent upon clear results of a thorough background check.
