The teacher will cultivate an appreciation of orchestral music across a wide range of genres, styles, and historical periods, while identifying, nurturing, and developing each student's individual talents and ensemble skills.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Designs and implements an engaging, inclusive orchestra curriculum aligned with district goals and state standards, emphasizing creativity, technique, ensemble collaboration, and musical expression. </li><li>Builds and maintains a positive, student-centered classroom and rehearsal environment that supports both individual skill development and full ensemble performance. </li><li>Develops structured yet flexible rehearsal plans that maximize instructional time, promote technical proficiency, and encourage expressive playing and artistic interpretation. </li><li>Utilizes formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor student growth, inform instruction, and accommodate diverse learners, including students with special needs. </li><li>Plans and conducts rehearsals and performances, including school concerts, community events, and district-wide events that showcase student progress and achievement. </li><li>Participates in professional learning opportunities to stay current with developments in string pedagogy, music technology, and innovative teaching strategies. </li><li>Maintains accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress in accordance with school and district policies. </li><li>Actively communicates with families and the community to promote program visibility and celebrate student success. </li><li>Promotes a culture of respect and high expectations for behavior in both classroom and performance settings. </li><li>Collaborates with other performing arts faculty, and grade-level teams to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide arts initiatives. </li><li>Oversees the care, maintenance, and inventory of school-owned string instruments and related materials. </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties</p> <p>Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent.</p> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities and is not meant to be all-inclusive.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of string pedagogy, ensemble conducting, music theory, and orchestral repertoire. </li><li>Ability to teach students at varying levels of instrumental proficiency, from beginners to advanced players. </li><li>Proficiency in instructional technology and digital tools to support music instruction and student engagement. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills for planning rehearsals, coordinating events, and managing resources. </li><li>Effective interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with students, colleagues, parents, and community partners. </li><li>A growth mindset and commitment to ongoing professional learning and reflective practice. </li><li>Ability to foster a love of music and inspire students through high-quality instruction and enthusiastic leadership. </li><li>Flexibility and creativity to adapt instruction and programming based on student needs and school initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Certification/License:</p> <ul> <li>K-12 NY State Certification as a Music Teacher. </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. </li><li>Masters Degree preferred. </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Successful prior teaching experience in music for the appropriate grade level preferred. </li></ul> <p>Employment Terms:</p> <ul> <li>10 month, full-time position (1.0 FTE) </li><li>Salary range in accordance with the Eastchester Teachers Association (ETA) negotiated salary schedule; $62,620 - $86,668, step placement contingent upon prior related experience. </li><li>Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
