Learn more About Shoreline AND Video Tour Our Campus!</p> <p>The Dental Hygiene program trains students to become Dental Hygienists and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching dental hygiene theory, laboratory, and clinic. Lead instructor responsibilities will be assigned in various subject areas, including first-year and second-year restorative theory, labs, and clinics. Those responsibilities include new applicant screening, as well as the development, organization and implementation of calibration procedures with clinical faculty members. Lead instructors also participate in regular meetings and reporting as part of ongoing accreditation work. </p> <p>In addition to teaching and lead instructor responsibilities, the successful candidate will contribute to advising students, assisting with assessment of current instructional methods, developing programs and curricula, and will participate in department, division and campus-related professional activities, with opportunities to participate in Shoreline College governance. This position will be primarily located in the UW School of Dentistry campus 1959 NE Pacific St., Seattle, WA 98195.</p> <p>Faculty at Shoreline will have an array of students from differing programs in their classroom, including professional technical and university transfers. Shoreline seeks a candidate that can identify and mitigate the barriers to success that many students face and be passionate about creating an equitable learning environment that supports success for all students. As such, candidate responses to the supplemental questions on the application will be the first criteria of consideration. </p> <p>Required Education & Experience </p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Dental Hygiene or closely related discipline from an accredited institution </li><li>Three (3) years of recent dental hygiene clinical experience </li><li>Experience teaching in a higher education environment or other adult training program </li><li>Current Washington State License to practice Dental Hygiene or Dentistry </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of</p> <ul> <li>Current applicable developments, research, and trends in the field </li><li>Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook and Teams </li><li>Learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technology (ex. ctcLink, Canvas, Starfish, clinic machines, etc.) </li><li>Field specific lab equipment and tools </li></ul> <p>Skill in</p> <ul> <li>Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Dental Hygiene </li><li>Fostering a climate of belonging through awareness and responsiveness </li><li>Experience teaching and developing coursework online </li><li>Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College </li><li>Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities </li><li>Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently </li><li>Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds </li></ul> <p>Physical Work Environment: </p> <p>Dental Hygiene instruction is conducted via a combination of in-person and online instruction. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment as well as equipment and tools specific to the field.
