<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Non-Instructional/Behavioral Specialist</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>7/16/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>James Hillhouse High School</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Behavioral Specialist</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Social-Emotional Learning</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Participates in assigned training and staff development opportunities </li><li>Develops and complete yearly performance goals/or evaluations </li><li>Uses all relevant computer software programs </li><li>Complies with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations </li><li>Performs all relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma and five years or more working with children.</p> <p>CERTIFICATION/ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS: Ability to pass and obtain a Registered Behavior Technician Certificate within three months of employment.</p> <p>Assessment</p> <ul> <li>Conduct reliability checks with classroom staff regarding the delivery of token system points </li><li>Conduct intervention fidelity checks to ensure proper implementation of procedures </li><li>Assist teams in the assessment of functional behavior </li><li>Input and analyze behavior data using the Review 360 database system </li><li>Assist teacher in analyzing student behavioral and instructional (antecedent) data </li><li>Record behavioral and instructional data in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner </li><li>Assess student reinforcement strategies </li></ul> <p>Management</p> <ul> <li>Implement established classroom behavior management procedures </li><li>Implement established seclusion procedures </li><li>Implement a token program reinforcement system </li><li>Implement physical management training (PMT) procedures as prescribed </li><li>Assist teacher with the development of staff/student training materials </li><li>Implement student ADL programs, including feeding and toileting </li><li>Implement program generalization strategies in community, home, and other environments </li></ul> <p>Communication</p> <ul> <li>Provide the teacher with student behavior reports at team meetings and per request </li><li>Participate in all staff meetings/training </li><li>Communicate relevant behavior information to the classroom team daily </li><li>Complete all forms, reports, and other paperwork in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner </li><li>Provide behavioral/instructional training and support for parents as needed </li><li>Notify the building principal of personal concerns promptly </li></ul> <p>Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Maintain current knowledge of each student's particular circumstances and needs </li><li>Understands core underlying principles of applied behavior analysis </li><li>Knows New Haven Public Schools policies and procedures </li><li>Knows the building program's behavior management system </li><li>Knows verbal and non-verbal intervention strategies </li><li>Knows Physical Management Training procedures </li><li>Familiar with individual behavior support programs </li><li>Familiar with the use of all relevant computer software programs </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Participates in assigned training and staff development opportunities </li><li>Develops and complete yearly performance goals/or evaluations </li><li>Uses all relevant computer software programs </li><li>Complies with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations </li><li>Performs all relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor </li></ul> <p>SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months - Local 884 (Range 18 - $55,990) New Haven Board of Education must approve all recommendations for employment as a Behavior Specialist.</p> <p>EVALUATION: This job's performance will be evaluated per provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluating personnel.</p> <p>NOTE: Work Habits</p> <ul> <li>Works collaboratively with site administrators, teachers, aides, and support staff </li><li>Accepts constructive criticism </li><li>Initiates change </li><li>Adapt to problem-solving </li><li>Follows business casual dress code </li><li>Follows through on assignments </li><li>Shows initiative </li><li>Assumes responsibility </li><li>Is Dependable, Accurate, Thorough, Punctual </li><li>Uses problem-solving as needed </li><li>Works effectively with others </li></ul>
