<p>University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking 100% Phone Triage Staff Nurses to work in the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.</p> <p>Sign-on incentive: Qualified candidates are eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $12,500</p> <p>Summary:</p> <p>This position is primarily responsible in taking live calls for Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center clinic patients; to provide over the phone assessment, and triage through an active listening and questioning process. Assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Provide leadership to members of the nursing team in order to maintain patient care standards.</p> <p>Duties to include:</p> <ul> <li>Answers telephones, prioritizes clinical triage calls, follows clinical protocols, and coordinates services, as needed for patients. </li><li>Verifies patient demographic information and accurately document phone encounters into electronic health record. </li><li>Provide phone-based support for oncology patients managing treatment side effects, pain, medication concerns, and emotional distress. </li><li>Collaborate closely with oncology physicians, nurse practitioners, and care teams to ensure continuity and quality of care. </li><li>Serves as an escalation point for clinical patient issues and other team members requiring clinical support, and provides clinical advice based on clinical protocols and procedures. </li><li>Manages and responds to escalated electronic patient messages whenever not answering inbound patient calls and uses clinical judgment to prioritize and accommodate patients. </li><li>Creates a positive patient experience at every encounter, attempting to independently resolve any issues or concerns of the patient at the time of the phone call, within the scope of the role. </li><li>Assist with scheduling appointments or referring patient to outside agencies for care, as appropriate. </li><li>Incorporates scientific, behavioral and humanistic principles for application to clinical practice. </li><li>Utilizes, adheres and supports departmental standards and practice guidelines. </li><li>Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. </li><li>Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations. </li><li>Maintains skills/competency related to special equipment, medications, and procedures common to the patient population of the unit/division. </li><li>Uses evaluation data to revise and implement change. </li><li>Assumes accountability for the provision of care for patients. </li><li>Participates as a member of the health care team utilizing effective communication skills. </li><li>Participates in the development of unit, division, department and hospital policies, procedures and protocols. </li><li>Participates in the development and implementation of computer applications. </li><li>Participates in the orientation of new nursing staff and the ongoing education of nursing personnel, as directed by the Nurse Manager or designee. </li><li>Participates in formal and informal teaching with health care students. </li><li>Functions as a patient advocate. </li><li>Incorporates the principles of Service Leadership to ensure positive patient/customer relations. </li><li>Maintains confidentiality. </li><li>Practices within legal boundaries of the Nurse Practice Act. </li><li>Evaluates and validates performance with Nurse Manager or designee and sets goals for work performance. </li><li>Adheres to UI Health Care policies regarding personal conduct, including follows established leadership, remaining responsive to instruction and coaching from supervisors and meeting the standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctuality. </li></ul> <p>Percent of Time: 100% 40 hours a week</p> <p>Schedule: Monday-Friday, shifts include 0700-1530, 0800-1630, 0800-1630 and 0830-1700. No Nights, no holidays, no weekends.</p> <p>Salary: $61,183 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate. We accomplish this in a multidisciplinary approach where our nursing staff are valued members of the team.</p> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire. </li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. </li><li>Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions. </li><li>General computer skills are required. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience, preferably with ambulatory experience </li><li>Oncology experience strongly preferred. </li><li>Prior experience with nurse triage or in a call center setting. </li><li>Previous experience with EPIC. </li></ul> <p>In order to be considered, applicants must upload resume (under submission relevant materials) that clearly address how they meet the listed required and desired qualifications of this position.</p> <p>Job openings are posted for a minimum of 7 calendar days.
