<p>The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking a full time Music Teacher for students in grades K-8. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated educator to inspire young musicians, foster creativity, and instill a love of music in our students. This position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire young musicians, nurture their talents, and cultivate a lifelong passion for music in our students. We are looking for a collaborative and innovative educator who is committed to providing high-quality music instruction and creating enriching musical experiences for students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.</p> <p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching general music classes to kindergarten through 5th grade students </li><li>Teaching one or multiple 5th through 8th grade Conservatory classes, which could include Chorus, Guitar/Ukulele, Music Production, Band or Orchestra </li><li>Teaching a beginning 4th grade instrument class on a woodwind, brass, percussion or string instrument (we have some flexibility to work within your prior experience and strengths) </li><li>Implementing a comprehensive music curriculum that meets the needs and interests of students in grades K-8, aligned with state standards and best practices in music education. </li><li>Providing engaging and interactive music instruction that incorporates a variety of teaching methods, musical genres, and technologies to enhance student learning and appreciation for music. </li><li>Teaching fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and music notation, through a combination of individual, small group, and ensemble experiences. </li><li>Leading choral or instrumental ensembles, rehearsals, and performances, fostering teamwork, discipline, and artistic expression among students. </li><li>Assessing student progress through performance evaluations, music projects, and other formative and summative assessments, providing feedback to students and families to support growth and development. </li><li>Maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity, fosters creativity, and promotes respect, cooperation, and collaboration among students. </li><li>Actively participating in professional development opportunities, department meetings, and school-wide initiatives to continuously improve teaching practices and contribute to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Strong musicianship, pedagogical skills, and knowledge of music theory, history, and repertoire across various musical genres and cultures. </li><li>Proficiency in vocal and instrumental music instruction (preference for those with some piano/keyboard, guitar, or other accompaniment instrument skills and conducting experience). </li><li>Ability to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods </li><li>Strong classroom management skills </li><li>Commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment. </li><li>Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. </li><li>Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families. </li><li>Reflective practitioner with a growth mindset and a willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of students and the school community. </li><li>Massachusetts DESE teacher certification in Music </li><li>Bachelor's degree </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree </li><li>Previous experience teaching music to students including: </li><li>Takadimi or a similar music literacy system and solfege </li><li>elementary level general music class instruments, such as xylophones, recorders, etc. </li><li>singing and general music, music literacy, song games, and music and movement activities at the elementary level </li><li>wind, brass, percussion, and/or string instruments </li></ul> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>In your cover letter, please address the following:</p> <ul> <li>Outline your prior teaching experience (in music and any other area) </li><li>What you would bring to this position and to our schools, as well as any other related experience you wish to share </li><li>What is/are your primary instrument(s), including voice and all secondary instruments and your proficiency level on each </li><li>Any experience you may have teaching chorus, guitar and/or ukulele, music technology, in particular using Digital Audio Workstations such as Soundtrap, Garage Band, Logic, etc., and any instrumental teaching experience you have </li></ul> <p>The Public Schools of Brookline is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their teaching or practice to the diversity and excellence of the PSB community.</p> <p>The Public Schools of Brookline is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
