<p>Job Description:</p> <p>CANTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>Director of Athletics and Supervisor of Health & Physical Education</p> <p>Reports To:</p> <p>High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Director of Athletics and Supervisor of Health and Physical Education is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and effective management of the district's interscholastic athletic programs and the Pre-K-12 Health and Physical Education curriculum. The position ensures alignment with the district's mission and strategic goals, fostering a culture of excellence and student well-being.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Athletics Leadership and Oversight:</p> <ul> <li>Plan, develop, implement, and supervise all interscholastic athletic programs, ensuring compliance with state regulations and league policies (e.g., CIAC or relevant governing body). </li><li>Oversee athletic schedules, facilities, transportation, event supervision, and athletic trainer coordination. </li><li>Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate coaches, ensuring all training, certifications, and evaluations meet district and legal standards. </li><li>Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility, conduct, and participation. </li><li>Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for student-athletes in accordance with district policy and state requirements. </li><li>Collaborate with building and district leaders on athletic equity, access, and opportunities. </li><li>Serve as liaison with local and state athletic associations, booster clubs, district operations, and community partners. </li><li>Oversee athletic budget and purchasing; manage uniforms, equipment, staffing, and inventory. </li><li>Provide overall leadership within the athletics department and assume other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Supervision of Health and Physical Education:</p> <ul> <li>Provide instructional leadership for the Pre-K-12 Health and Physical Education programs. </li><li>Supervise and support curriculum development, alignment, and revision in accordance with state and national standards (e.g., SHAPE America, CDC guidelines). </li><li>Coordinate professional development opportunities for Health and PE staff. </li><li>Monitor instructional practices through classroom observations, teacher support, and evaluation. </li><li>Lead the development of assessments to measure student progress and program effectiveness. </li><li>Collaborate with district staff, families, and community stakeholders to promote student well-being and lifelong healthy habits. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut Intermediate Administrator Certification (092) required. </li><li>Connecticut teaching certification in Physical Education, Health Education, or related field preferred. </li><li>Minimum of five years of experience in teaching and/or coaching; leadership experience preferred. </li><li>Knowledge of curriculum design, instructional best practices, and assessment in Health and PE. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire staff, collaborate across departments, and promote a student-centered culture. </li><li>Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Understanding of CIAC or equivalent athletic association policies and compliance procedures. </li></ul> <p>Work Year:</p> <p>12-month position within the Administrative Association of Canton, Inc.</p> <p>Evaluation:</p> <p>Evaluated annually by the High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent in accordance with district policies.</p> <p>TO APPLY:</p> <p>Interested applicants please apply at www.cantonschools.org.
