<p>TITLE: Middle School Social Studies Teacher</p> <p>TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); 2025-2026 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education, as set forth in the agreement between the Seekonk School Department and the Seekonk Educators Association</p> <p>LOCATION: Dr. Kevin M. Hurley Middle School</p> <p>AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Building Principal</p> <p>The Social Studies Teacher provides learning experiences in History and Social Sciences, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:</p> <ul> <li>Licensed, or eligible for licensure in History (5-12) and/or Social Science (5-12) and/or Middle School: Humanities (5-8) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults. </li><li>Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies. </li><li>Ability to relate well with students, colleagues, parents, and staff. </li></ul> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required. </li><li>Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect accommodation and regulatory compliance regarding the individual needs of students with IEPs or 504 Plans. </li><li>Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives and methods according to the MA Curriculum Frameworks. </li><li>Use appropriate technologies in the teaching/learning process. </li><li>Use formative and summative assessment to inform instruction and improve student achievement. </li><li>Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school. </li><li>Create a classroom environment that is respectful, challenging and responsive to diverse student needs including the physical, social and emotional development of all students. </li><li>Demonstrate sound behavior management practices within the classroom and administer discipline according to school department policies and administrative regulations. </li><li>Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents. </li><li>Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members. </li><li>Provide direction for and monitor the activities of a Teaching Assistant (Paraprofessional), if one is assigned to the classroom. </li><li>Other duties, as assigned according to the SEA contract. </li></ul>
