<p>The Assistant Teacher for Child Care supervises children while providing a safe, nurturing, responsive, and inclusive educational environment using developmentally appropriate practices. Assistant Teacher observes, documents, and assesses children's behaviors in order to support and contribute to decisions regarding individual children's needs in all domains of learning. Participates in required training hours, maintains CPR, First Aid and AED certification, has daily communication with parents, and coordinates bi-annual parent conferences and parent reports.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience working with children birth to five years is required. </li><li>Associate degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Candidate will need to have all NYS required clearances (State Central Register clearance, Fingerprint clearance, and Staff Exclusion List clearance) prior to start. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>TEACH, OBSERVE, FOLLOW REGULATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Supervise, care for, and teach children in assigned classroom. </li><li>Certification/Recertification of First Aid/CPR/AED is required. </li><li>Maintain professionalism and problem solve with teaching team and full staff when issues arise. </li><li>Assure compliance with the NYS Office of Child & Family Services (OCFS) and Syracuse University rules and regulations. </li></ul> <p>PREPARE & PLAN:</p> <ul> <li>Assist Head Teachers with curriculum planning and documentation. </li><li>Assist in writing classroom newsletters; prepare documentation boards; fill in daily health checks, injury/illness/incident forms and other required OCFS forms. </li><li>Read program information and updates including changes to NYS regulations. </li></ul> <p>COMMUNICATE:</p> <ul> <li>Daily communication with parents, write bi-annual parent reports for children in home group, host parent/teacher conferences, advocate for children needing additional services as needed. </li></ul> <p>LEAD & INITIATE:</p> <ul> <li>Attend monthly full staff meetings, weekly team meetings, and individual supervision meetings with the head teacher and center director. </li><li>Attend center events and professional development training. </li><li>Stays current on best practices in early childhood education. </li></ul> <p>ORGANIZE & ADAPT:</p> <ul> <li>Arrange/rearrange classroom to create a workable space supporting children's learning; change out equipment and materials to inspire use of varying pieces and to keep the room fresh and inviting.
