<p>Florida A&M University's Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety/Plant Operations and Maintenance/Building Maintenance Department is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Maintenance Support Worker position. This advertisement will be used to fill multiple vacancies.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Assists in the following Plumbing duties: Repairing damaged steam and hot water lines; installing and repairing valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, sanitary fixtures, etc; maintaining faucets, wash bowls and piping systems by opening clogged drains; replacing washers on leaky faucets, etc. under the instruction of the Maintenance Specialist or Maintenance Mechanic assigned.</p> <p>Assists in the following HVAC duties: Installing and repairing condensate pumps, hot water pumps, condenser pumps, chemical pumps, sump pumps, steam traps, steam valves, reducing valves, strainers; replacing insulation; performing preventive maintenance (P.M.) on all equipment; repairing damaged steam and hot water lines by replacing pipes, fittings and valves above and underground as needed under the instruction of the Maintenance Specialist or Maintenance Mechanic assigned.</p> <p>Assists in the following Electrical duties: Installing, repairs or replacing various incandescent, high intensity discharge and fluorescent fixtures; replacing ballast, light switches, receptacles, circuit breakers, fuses and other electrical components under the instruction of the Maintenance Specialist or Maintenance Mechanic assigned.</p> <p>Assists in the following Carpentry duties: Repairing windows, walls, ceilings, stairs, furniture, and floors; including basic masonry, tile work, wood work, caulking, painting, and hanging doors under the instruction of the Maintenance Specialist or Maintenance Mechanic assigned.</p> <p>Performs general labor, i.e. moving furniture or equipment, etc., as necessary; Cleans, stores and maintains tools, brushes, vehicles, and other related equipment in good working order; cleans working areas.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>A high school diploma or equivalency and/or trade or vocational school graduate and one year of related experience in carpentry, locksmith, painting, life safety, electrical, plumbing and general building systems and service equipment installation, maintenance and repair. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.</p> <p>Recommended Competencies</p> <p>Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills;</p> <p>Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;</p> <p>Knowledge of and ability to safely operate a variety of production equipment;</p> <p>Ability to meet physical requirements of position;</p> <p>Knowledge of and ability to apply set research and laboratory procedures and safety practices;</p> <p>Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques;</p> <p>Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices; and,</p> <p>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.</p> <p>Anticipated Salary Range</p> <p>The salary for this position is $31,320 annually or $15 per hour.</p> <p>Licenses and Certifications</p> <p>Must maintain a valid Driver's License.</p> <p>Pay Plan</p> <p>This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.</p> <p>Conditions of Employment</p> <p>Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. An official college transcript, a high school diploma, or other educational documents must be submitted, where applicable, at the time of employment.</p> <p>Only United States (U.S.) citizens or aliens who have a legal right to work in the U.S. are eligible for employment. You will be required to provide proof of your identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of employment.</p> <p>Section 110.1128, Florida Statutes, prohibits employment by the State (including re-hire after a break in service) of any male born after October 1, 1962, who failed to register with the Selective Service System, under the provisions of the U.S. Military Selective Service Act, during the person's period of eligibility (ages 18 through 25). Additionally, if currently employed by the State, this law prohibits the promotion of such person.
