<p>This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits, competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. </p> <p>"Internal Posting-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT Employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 May Apply"</p> <p>This position will function as a lead VERT III (Advanced Level Vehicle/ Equipment Repair Technician) within the North Wilkesboro Equipment Shop in Wilkes County. This position will perform a range of progressively responsible tasks involving advanced diagnostics and the use of computer diagnostic software to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of light, medium and heavy duty on and off-road equipment. The selected candidate must have the ability to perform the following: read and follow electrical and hydraulic schematics, possess the physical strength to move relatively heavy objects, follow and perform written and oral instructions, multi-task while maintaining focus, prepare paperwork essential to employment and equipment repair.</p> <p>In this position you will be expected to perform preventative maintenance, repair, rebuild and diagnose mechanical and electrical systems on gasoline and diesel powered automotive, light, medium and heavy-duty on and off-road equipment. Work assignments will vary in complexity depending on the type of equipment and system. </p> <p>This candidate will act as backup to the Vehicle/Equipment Repair Supervisor and must be able to perform and mentor others in skilled mechanic work including but not limited to the following systems brakes, steering, tires and tubes, wheels, rims and hubs, transmission (auto and manual), charging systems, cranking systems, ignition systems, CAN BUS systems and associated control modules, lighting systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, air conditioning, instruments & gages, and air intake systems. This candidate will be required to utilize SAP to create work orders and enter time on work orders. This candidate will be responsible for completing fuel and lube inventory, assisting other technicians in troubleshooting, and completing more complex repairs, assisting supervisor, maintaining fuel site records and inspections per NCDOT and NCDENR requirements. </p> <p>Management prefers:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in performing preventive maintenance on a minimum of one of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment. </li><li>Experience in performing electrical/ electronic diagnostics and repair of complex wiring on two of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment. </li><li>Experience in inventory management including parts, fuel, and lube commodities. </li><li>Experience in performing hydraulic system diagnostics, repairs, and rebuilds on a variety of equipment. </li><li>Experience in the diagnostics and repair of powertrain components. </li></ul> <p>Additional Expectations</p> <p>Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver's License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Safety toe footwear is needed.</p> <p>Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.</p> <p>Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
