<p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>MA DESE License as Special Education Administrator or Assistant Principal </li><li>Previous teaching experience required; supervisory experience preferred </li><li>Master's Degree in Education required </li></ul> <p>Reporting Relationships:</p> <p>The Assistant Principal for ECDC Special Education Programming reports to the ECDC Principal</p> <p>General Responsibilities:</p> <p>Works to provide and maintain effective communication, the promotion of staff and pupil participation, the provisions for logistical planning, and the promotion of staff and pupil morale. Assists the ECDC Principal in overseeing all special education services, processes and procedural compliances within ECDC. The Assistant Principal for ECDC Special Education Programming will exercise a high degree of initiative and professional judgment in accomplishing the aims of special education and in carrying out the policies and procedures adopted by the Franklin School Committee, the Office of Student Services, and ECDC.</p> <p>Performance Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Assists the Principal with the implementation and oversight of all Special Education continuum of programs and services at the preschool level. </li><li>Provide guidance to the building-based team on Franklin practices and state and federal regulations and laws related to special education process and procedures including the concepts of Free and Appropriate Public Education in the Least Restrictive Environment </li><li>Coordinate special education services as directed by the Office of Student Services </li><li>As part of the Team process, monitor and evaluate students' academic, social and behavioral progress in relation to IEP goals and objectives and MA curriculum frameworks </li><li>Maintain frequent communication between administrators, service providers, and classroom teachers regarding any student and/or parent concerns </li><li>Assure that parents/guardians are informed and comfortable throughout the Team process </li><li>Review reports and IEPs for accuracy and content </li><li>Monitor timelines to ensure DESE and legal compliance </li><li>Chair Team meetings - initial, reevaluations, and annual reviews as needed </li><li>Complete paperwork for Initial Evaluations and Reevaluations </li><li>Assists in the supervision of Educational Support Professionals at ECDC. </li><li>Visits classrooms, observes, evaluates, and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance and teaching practices. </li><li>Coordinate transition activities between the elementary schools and ECDC.. </li><li>Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum. </li><li>Inform the Office of Student Services immediately of new students or unique situations </li><li>Oversee maintenance of special education records; ensure that the Office of Student Services has all original records, reports, letters, and any other relevant information to maintain a complete official file at the Office of Student Services. </li><li>Complete Entrance and Exit Data for DESE (Indicator 7). </li><li>Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning and evaluating of the school's Special Education staff. </li><li>Assists in specialized in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for administrative procedures and instructions in special education matters. </li><li>Shares in the responsibility for the implementation and observance of all School Committee policies and regulations by the school's staff and students. </li><li>Establishes and maintains relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret School Committee policies and administrative directives, and to discuss and resolve individual student problems. </li><li>Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Principal or Assistant Superintendent of Student Services or their designee. </li><li>Assumes responsibility for their own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations; attendance at regional, state, and national meetings; and enrollment in advanced courses. </li><li>Other related duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, or their designee. </li></ul> <p>The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.
