Posting Number 20166733S Job Description</p> <p>Ohio University Libraries seek a forward-thinking, collaborative, and engaged leader to head the Research Services department in alignment with the needs of an R1 university. This role is responsible for advancing innovative programming and outreach that supports research and creative activity across all levels of the university, while fostering a healthy, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.</p> <p>Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Research & Education Services, the Head of Research Services plays a key role in delivering high-impact library services that support the university's mission and Dynamic Strategy. This position leads the development, outreach strategy, management, and assessment of services related to the research data lifecycle, open scholarship, impact analysis, digital scholarship, data literacy, and student research initiatives.</p> <p>The Head of Research Services also supervises a team of professional librarians and works collaboratively across the Libraries and University to support research excellence. Additionally, the position serves as a subject liaison-likely in Health or STEM-providing instruction, consultation, and collection development in assigned academic areas as part of the Health & STEM disciplinary team.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Leads the Libraries' support for research and creative activity, collaborating across campus, including but not limited to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Graduate College, the Office of Information Technology, faculty, and library staff to deliver services related to data use, research data management, digital scholarship, and evidence synthesis. </li><li>Advances knowledge sharing and research impact through open access initiatives, researcher identity tools, and guidance on publishing and citation analysis. </li><li>Supervises and supports departmental staff, setting goals and providing leadership while also contributing as a subject liaison and active team member. </li><li>Coordinates student research support efforts, partnering with programs like Honors Tutorial College, OHIO Honors, and Cutler Scholars. </li><li>Actively engages in professional development to stay at the forefront of research support and contribute to the field. In this context, the Head of Research Services will play a vital role in fostering collaborations across library departments and campus units, supporting research, creative activity, and learning for both faculty and students at every level.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited school or from a master's level program in library and information studies accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body of another country.* </li><li>3 years of library work experience. </li><li>1 year of direct supervisory experience of full-time employees. </li><li>Comprehensive knowledge and/or experience with several of the following: research data, digital scholarship, research impact, creative activity support, and open access initiatives. </li><li>Strong internal and external communication skills, including experience/knowledge in outreach initiatives and fostering a team-based work environment or project. </li><li>An ALA master's degree may be in progress during the time of application submission. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Teaching and presentation experience. </li><li>Experience working in an academic or research/creative activity-focused library. </li><li>Collection management experience or coursework relevant to building and maintaining library collections. </li><li>A degree or interest in health, medicine, or STEM fields. </li></ul> <p>Department Library Pay Rate</p> <p>The target salary for this position is $68,000 to $78,000 and is commensurate with the selected candidate's education and experience while considering internal equity.</p> <p>Ohio University is proud to offer a robust healthcare plan that includes maternity care, counseling and mental healthcare, prescription coverage, vision, dental, orthodontia care, and more.
