Do you want hands-on experience supporting programs that improve the lives of families, children, and older adults?</p> <p>Join the Health Division at Oakland County as a Summer Health Education Assistant in Health Promotion and Support and gain meaningful, real-world experience in health education, maternal and child health, injury prevention, and community outreach.</p> <p>This is more than a summer job - it's an opportunity to contribute to initiatives that directly impact residents across the county.</p> <p><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>____</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>What You'll Do</p> <p>As a Summer Health Education Assistant, you will support Health Education, Nutrition Services, and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based health programs.</p> <p>Community Health Programming</p> <ul> <li>Assist with nutrition education and physical activity sessions for families, including: </li></ul> <p>o Taste tests</p> <p>o Grocery store tours</p> <p>o Breastfeeding programs and events</p> <p>o Nutrition programming for older adults</p> <ul> <li>Support maternal and child health initiatives, including Oakland County's new Baby Café. </li><li>Help coordinate and attend community programs such as: </li></ul> <p>o Family Market Days</p> <p>o Senior Project Fresh</p> <p>o WIC Produce Connection</p> <p>Prevention & Public Health Initiatives</p> <ul> <li>Support injury and violence prevention programming. </li><li>Assist with substance use disorder prevention efforts for youth and adults. </li><li>Participate in public health coalition and partnership meetings. </li></ul> <p>Health Education & Communications</p> <ul> <li>Develop and revise educational materials for print and virtual platforms. </li><li>Assist during health classes and community presentations for adults, youth, and children. </li><li>Contribute to health communications efforts, including: </li></ul> <p>o Social media messaging</p> <p>o Newsletters</p> <p>o Website content</p> <p>o Media campaigns</p> <ul> <li>Gain exposure to graphic design principles and public health messaging strategies. </li></ul> <p>Events & Community Engagement</p> <ul> <li>Help coordinate and staff health fairs and special events throughout the county. </li><li>Work with diverse community partners in indoor and outdoor settings. </li><li>Engage directly with residents across multiple communities. </li></ul> <p>Evaluation & Assessment</p> <ul> <li>Assist with needs assessments and program evaluation activities. </li><li>Administer community surveys and participate in listening sessions. </li><li>Compile and summarize data to support program improvements. </li></ul> <p><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>____</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>Why You'll Love It</p> <ul> <li>You'll contribute to programs that improve nutrition, support families, promote healthy behaviors, and strengthen community well-being across Oakland County. </li><li>Work directly with families, youth, older adults, and community partners - not just behind a desk. </li><li>Gain exposure to program planning, implementation, communications, evaluation, and coalition-building - core competencies for careers in public health, health education, dietetics, social work, and community health. </li><li>Blend education with creativity through social media, campaigns, and health promotion materials while collaborating with experienced public health professionals </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <p>A. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ol> <li>Have completed at least 2 years from an accredited college or university, with course work in Community Health, Education, Biology, Nutrition, or a related area. </li></ol> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <p>Acts as photographer at events and presentations.</p> <p>May update directories and databases, take inventory of unit supplies.</p> <p>Assists with educational presentations, develops brochures, flyers and displays.</p> <p>May be responsible for creating, developing, marketing, presenting, and evaluating one summer educational "project". (Such as "sun safety", "bike safety", etc.)</p> <p>Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Ability to communicate, prepare written documents, operate office equipment, and handle office supplies.</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Work is performed in a typical office environment.</p> <p>IMPORTANT NOTE: The primary purpose of this job description is to set a fair and equitable salary range for this job classification. Generally, only those key duties necessary for proper job evaluation and/or labor market analysis have been included.
