<p>Department</p> <p>The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art is located in Sarasota, Florida, and is a department of Florida State University. Learn more about The Ringling at https://www.ringling.org/about-ringling/careers/.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The Museum Publications Coordinator serves as the central point of contact for all museum publication projects; liaises between internal stakeholders, designers, and publishers; manages publication contracts; and oversees editorial workflows to maintain the museum's high standards of scholarship, accessibility, and design.</p> <ul> <li>Oversees the full lifecycle of museum publications, including exhibition catalogues, scholarly books & essays, journals, and digital or web-based publications. Develops and maintains production schedules, ensuring deadlines are met across departments and external vendors to ensure the timely and accurate production of printed and digital materials that support exhibitions, collections, and initiatives. Coordinates internal and external contributors, including curators, authors, editors, designers, and printers. Serves as managing editor of the museum's Members' Magazine, Annual Review, and other publications as assigned; gathers content from across departments and stakeholders, develops story ideas, and edits features in collaboration with internal and external contributors. </li><li>Ensures adherence to The Ringling's style guides and editorial standards. Edits and proofreads written content for accuracy, spelling, grammar, message clarity, consistency, and formatting. Makes corrections and revisions as needed. Reviews layouts and proofs, providing feedback to designers and publishers. Works collaboratively with the marketing team to analyze and improve content and messaging. May write copy to support marketing initiatives. </li><li>Works collaboratively with museum staff to identify, hire, and oversee external publishing contractors, freelancers, printers, vendors, editors, indexers, distributors, designers, etc., and to refine standards and best practices for editorial output. Monitors publication contracts, rights agreements, and permissions, working with other departments as appropriate. Tracks budgets and expenditures for each publication project. Negotiates terms with vendors and freelance contributors. </li><li>Serves as the primary liaison between museum staff and external publishers. Facilitates communication between departments to ensure alignment on publication goals. Represents the museum's interests in co-publication and distribution agreements in collaboration with other departments as appropriate. Registers publications with the Library of Congress and publication distributors as needed. </li><li>Under the direction of the Executive Director and Head of Marketing and Communications, contributes to long-range planning for the museum's publishing program. Explores new formats and platforms for digital publishing. Supports initiatives that enhance accessibility and sustainability in museum publications.
