For more information regarding this program, please visit https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <p>Essential Function Examples</p> <p>Lead Corrections Officers on shift in monitoring inmates' daily activities.</p> <p>Follow-up of incidents involving disturbances, grievances and rule and regulation infractions by inmates and officers.</p> <p>Conduct scheduled and random search of facility and equipment for contraband, cleanliness and maintenance requirements.</p> <p>Provide lower workers shift relief in forms of leave or breaks.</p> <p>Enforce rules and regulations to ensure adherence to policy and defined procedures.</p> <p>Serve as mentor and field training of lower workers and assist with employee evaluation.</p> <p>Marginal Function Examples</p> <p>Perform other duties as required or assigned.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>A minimum of an associates degree with three years of work related experience, including one year as a Corrections Officer. Related experience shall consist of work in the following areas: criminal justice, social work, psychology, corrections, probation and parole, and substance/addiction treatment. Experience as a police or security office is not creditable. Candidates with no degree must have at least four years of work-related experience.</p> <p>Required to work mandatory overtime and to work on any shift as needed.</p> <p>Possession of a valid Driver's License.</p> <p>Physical Requirements:Extensive standing, walking, climbing stairs at least eight times daily per shift,using and lifting emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, AED, pepper spray, taser etc.), bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, continuously wearing an equipment belt, usinga breathing apparatus, listening for possible disturbances, observation of required areas</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>ELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.</p> <p>The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.</p> <p>The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.</p> <p>All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
