<p>Lakeland University, an independent, not-for-profit, liberal arts institution, seeks a diverse pool of qualified candidates for the position of Campus Safety Officer to join our in-house campus safety team on a part-time basis. We are looking for people who are willing to support the mission of the Department of Campus Safety by providing our students, staff, and faculty with a safe and secure environment in which to learn, grow and enjoy the Lakeland University community experience.</p> <p>POSITION PURPOSE</p> <p>Responsible for responding to both emergency and routine radio and telephone communications, actively patrolling campus buildings and grounds, assist in bi-annual fire drills, tornado drills and other emergency drills, issue parking citations, provide vehicle services, work sporting events and special events throughout campus, respond to emergency medical situations, write accurate, factual reports when required.</p> <p>GENERAL EXPECTATIONS</p> <p>All Lakeland University staff members are expected to:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Demonstrate in their words and actions an appreciation for the history of Lakeland University and a commitment to its stated mission;</p> </li><li> <p>Represent unequivocally in their behavior the stated values of the University;</p> </li><li> <p>Be good stewards of the University's resources, including its personnel and the goodwill of its friends, its alumni, and local community;</p> </li><li> <p>Work collaboratively (as opposed to competitively) with their peers to meet objectives and achieve our goals;</p> </li><li> <p>Keep their supervisor appropriately informed;</p> </li><li> <p>Be forthright and honest in their communication with all members of the University community;</p> </li><li> <p>Treat all members in a manner of teamwork and respect;</p> </li><li> <p>Acts in a manner that sets the standard for service in higher education and the core principals of Lakelanders Excelling at Professionalism (LEAP) - show respect, communicate and be positive;</p> </li><li> <p>Advise their supervisor with respect to all matters that require their attention, including their own performance.</p> </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li> <p>Use exceptional customer service skills in all interactions with students, staff, faculty and visitors of the college;</p> </li><li> <p>Attend professional development and training programs as required;</p> </li><li> <p>Accountable for reporting all CLERY reportable incidents;</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of report writing in computer software applications;</p> </li><li> <p>Provide directions to campus visitors;</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor campus alarm systems, security/surveillance cameras;</p> </li><li> <p>The ability to work with the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department, the local volunteer fire department and other emergency services;</p> </li><li> <p>Patrol campus buildings, grounds and parking lots on foot, or by vehicle to identify unauthorized use of buildings, equipment or facilities and/or criminal activity, atypical activities or other irregularities. Take appropriate action to correct on-campus situations that could reasonably be considered detrimental or harmful to persons or property;</p> </li><li> <p>Investigate complaints of disturbance, accidents, infractions and criminal activity occurring on campus and undertake appropriate action or response</p> </li><li> <p>Respond to requests for first aid and support. Assess the situation and provide limited first aid support as authorized. Request support services such as ambulance, paramedics, fire, etc. Provide lifesaving care using an Automated Electronic Defibrillator.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in providing emergency notifications to staff, faculty and students. Assist county, state or federal law enforcement personnel to extent possible within the limits of Campus Safety Officers' authority and the law.</p> </li></ul> <p>SPECIALIZE KNOW-HOW & SKILLS</p> <ul> <li> <p>Two years full-time college education in police science or closely related field; -or- two years full-time experience in police, security, military or campus security;</p> </li><li> <p>Requires the ability to pass firearm certification on an annual basis;</p> </li><li> <p>Requires the ability to pass Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED/First Aid;</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to use diplomacy and tact when dealing with sensitive situations;</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to effectively manage time and priorities;</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated ability to tactfully and effectively communicate (written and verbal) with a variety of individuals;</p> </li><li> <p>Strong critical thinking skills;</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates organizational ability, and attention to detail and accuracy;</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;</p> </li><li> <p>The knowledge of on and off campus services (counseling, SANE exams, Safe Harbor, Crisis Center);</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as needed;</p> </li><li> <p>Willing to take on additional projects or tasks as the need arises;</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to multitask effectively;</p> </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <ul> <li> <p>With or without reasonable accommodation, the physical and mental requirements of this job may include the following: seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. Frequent sitting, standing and walking, which may be required for long periods, and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li> <p>Minimum two years full-time college education in police science or closely related field; -OR- two years full-time experience in law enforcement, armed security, military or campus security.</p> </li><li> <p>No previous felony convictions</p> </li></ul> <p>CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT</p> <ul> <li> <p>Successfully pass a criminal history background check.</p> </li><li> <p>Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen, a fitness/agility test, vision test and a psychological assessment.</p> </li><li> <p>Possess a current, valid, unrestricted driver's license.</p> </li><li> <p>Possess a Wisconsin Concealed Carry Permit.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work mandated shifts and hours.</p> </li></ul>
