<p>Posting closes on 5/21/2025</p> <p>Under general supervision of Staff and Senior Structures Engineers, this position is responsible for determining load capacity ratings on all public bridges, for the design of bridges and structures to provide construction plans meeting state and federal requirements, or for the inspection and testing of steel and concrete products.</p> <p>Examples of Work</p> <p>The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.</p> <ul> <li>Perform in-depth structural analysis for determining load capacity ratings of simple and more complex highway bridges. </li><li>Provide supplemental on-site inspection of bridges. </li><li>Assist in coordinating load capacity rating and structure inventory activities. </li><li>Investigate the adequacy of a structure(s) to support overloads and prepare recommendations regarding permit requests. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>Education and experience: Possession of a current Arkansas license to practice professional engineering or graduation from an EAC of ABET approved engineering curriculum or equivalent as judged by the Arkansas Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Experience in bridge structural analysis, design, and load capacity rating techniques.</p> <p>Knowledge, skills and abilities: Thorough knowledge of bridge structural analysis, design, and load capacity rating techniques or bridge design experience and general working knowledge of the design and construction specifications and materials for all types of bridges commonly constructed by the Department. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Effective communication skills.</p> <p>Working conditions: Occasional in-state travel.</p> <p>Licenses, registrations and certifications: Engineer Intern certification.
